Rangers' Wee Spot in Europe - Season 2023/24

There is a significant difference in money between the two competitions.

The initial prize money for reaching the groups is about 80% of the Europa League and so is the prize money for winning or drawing group games but it gets lower after that. Any other prize money  is usually about 60% of the EL money for the equivalent stage.

Coefficient money is 34% of the EL and TV money only 17%.

So ultimately it would be a disaster if we somehow contrived to lose to Alashkert. Especially considering that Alashkert's ELO rating is worse than any Scottish Premiership side.

Ah, the evocative picture you paint.

It's glorious and beautiful.

By most rational analyses, these are diddies.

They might go close if they were in this season's Championship... if Killie had a lot of injuries. That's about the standard we're looking at.

They needed extra time to best Connah's Quay Hammerthrowers in the CL qualifiers - exactly what you'd expect Pars, Jags, Caley or Raith to do, after 3 hours of frustration. They were respectable in both gsmes v. Sheriff Tiraspol, who look set for the CL groups after beating Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 in Tuesday's 1st leg. The win over Kairat Almaty was unexpected. As said above, they've lost their 1st two league games.

Prior to the Kairat win, they'd only beaten ex-Yugoslav diddies and the Andorran hammerthrowers who played the Spoonburners last month... and Sainties, in their European debut.

They're the usual deal over there: a club that puts the average "Right On!" Scot's outrage at Old Firm antics in perspective. Founded by a Soviet "businessman" 10 years ago, as a revival of a club that folded a decade or so earlier, but which had played feckin' miles from Yerevan... in a province partly occupied by Azerbaijan since the war that predictably erupted when the USSR collapsed. Despite playing near Azerbaijan in the east, that club was named Alashkert in honour of the town of Alashkert. That's now over the western border in Turkey, but it was an Armenian town until the Armenians were expelled in the war between Russia & Turkey... at about the time 4 lads walking through Kelvingrove Park decided to start a football team.

During the recent flare-up, there were columns of these barstewards from both sides - mainly Azeris, but some Armenians - driving around Kensington in London, in convoys, blocking streets and tooting horns. (Both embassies are in Kensington, about half a mile apart... with the Israeli embassy and the resident gangs of angry Philistine demonstrators between them😡)

The Caucuses & Balkans should be sealed off and allowed to get on with it!... and as for the massive new batch of trainee drivers from Kabul, due to arrive at the Uber Academy in London shortly...😠

The lot of 'em should be hoyed out and replaced with people who are not terminal basketcases. Filipinos would do. That won't happen... unfortunately...

...but at least The Famous will hoy these c**ts out. This will be at least 4-0. No danger.

BBC putting the pressure on The Rangers for tonight here...

19:38

10-man Celtic show Rangers the way

Rangers v Alashkert (20:00)

Alashkert's last visit to Scotland - in July 2018 - did not go so well.

Goals from Odsonne Edouard, James Forrest and Callum McGregor in Yerevan gave Brendan Rodgers' Celtic victory in the first leg of their Champions League first qualifying round before they completed the formalities in Glasgow.

Moussa Dembele's quick-fire double and another from Forrest did not tell the full story of how comfortable it was for the home side considering they played 79 minutes with 10 men after Jozo Simunovic's early red card.

Alashkert appear to have declined as a force since then.

Certainly looked Strong Enough 35 minutes ago.
I thought so too, but:

- Lundstrum is terrible.
- Tavernier and Kent a continuing their awful form (Patterson and Wright must be pissed as they've been better than those two, especially Wright)
- More worrying for Rangers fans first 35 minutes Morelos looks like Édouard. Like he doesn't want to be there.

Bassey Rangers best player sums it up, really.

When did Rangers change their tactics to exclusively her the ball wide and put in shite crosses?

And how have Celtic gone from being so bad to arguably the better team in 4 weeks, based on the last 3 games of each. [emoji1745]
