Coronavirus (COVID-19)

They touched on this a wee while back.

Something about T cells and exposure to other coronaviruses helping to build immunity / lessen the severity and slow the spread.

It would certainly help explain why easing lockdown has not caused any spikes so far.

Nobody has a clue about this disease - medical men, laymen, football fans on P&B...

The most surprising development in the oxford vaccine saga is that they claim to be able to supply 2 billion doses by the end of October.

To produce anything like that amount they must have already begun making and stockpiling huge quantities.

Or they're telling lies. You choose.

It's not as massive a punt as it sounds, with these mRNA vaccines they use a proven template and adapt it, so they're fairly sure about it being safe before it's tested, and that it should work to some extent. It's how effective it is and for how long that is yet to be known. I write as somebody with zero expertise in this I should add.

I’m pretty sure AstraZeneca announced in June that they were producing large quantities of the vaccine from that time onwards ie starting large scale production in advance of knowing if the vaccine worked.

Not sure if this has been posted before but The Guardian has a nice little page on their site dedicated to ‘tracking’ potential vaccines and the current stage each team of researchers/lab is at -

I'm quite hopeful a vaccine will be available at the start of next year. The amount of money and effort poured into this seems to be yielding some positive results.

The three stages in testing are

  1.  Safety
  2.  Effectiveness
  3.  Dosage

presumably during the pandemic drug companies are being financed to produce before the regular process has been completed.

Another thing that puts me off the vaccine is how involved the “Gates Foundation” is  with it. Not that I believe in the conspiracy theory about him microchipping every one before anyone thinks that 🙄

Absolute zoomer city

No deaths today in Scotland but cases were 21, quite distributed over the country. A delay in reporting from previous days or a genuine 24 hour increase? I guess it was alaays going to be the case that significant reopening would lead to some degree of increase in cases and if were real and in the order of the 20 something figures weve seen so far we'll have done really well I think.

Nothing to be immediately concerned about, but worth keeping an eye on over the next wee or so.

So what do you believe then? Why does that put you off?

Hopefully a timely reminder to everyone to continue to take precautions. Wear face coverings, exercise social distancing, good personal hygiene, be sensible, follow the guidance
