MP_MFC
England don't go into tiers when they reopen, and tiers are give or take Lockdown Lite. They retain the ability to impose local lockdown, so you can bet they will fire places into lockdown if need be just like they did with Leicester. It's bonkers to just go with a blanket approach on the way out, I would hope that they would move areas from level 4 to level 2 if appropriate but to open everywhere up to massive easings at the same time regardless of caseload is bonkers.
djchapsticks
I don't think the content that was there was all that bad. However, the actual amount of content was woeful and came up about 3 steps short. Feels like shelling out £50 on a game only to be told to pony up another £70 for the DLC but only once it's released. Paco
The devil is in the detail, and we won’t know the details until mid-March it seems. Some changes to Level 3 restrictions, where presumably the vast majority of the population will go, were mentioned but that could mean anything - it could mean outdoor boozing is fine, which it wasn’t before, or it could mean gyms which were open will stay shut. So it’s very hard to judge currently. If it’s broadly similar to last time, we’ll be much the same as England. Maybe a week or two behind, but maybe not. Nothing to be upset about today. It’s shite to hear but it’s not going to be vastly different to the rest of the UK.

Left Back
Does anyone know what the criteria were previously for the different levels? i.e. case numbers, hospitalisations etc, not what you could actually do in the levels. What you could do in level 3 was a bit shite tbh. https://www.gov.scot/binaries/content/documents/govscot/publications/strategy-plan/2020/10/covid-19-scotlands-strategic-framework/documents/level-3-measures/level-3-measures/govscot%3Adocument/level-3-measures.pdf
craigkillie
Tier 4 and Tier 3 didn't feel particularly different to me, since neither of them really allowed me to do most of the stuff I actually enjoy doing in my life - especially travelling between council areas. Cafes being open is a slight bonus I suppose.
MP_MFC
It does feel like there is more to come from it, and she said that upfront that she will be adding more info as more reliable data becomes available. Unlike Boris firing out everyone into the Garage on June 21st.
101
If the numbers keep in the current decline we would be going straight into Restriction levels 0-2 though right? Maybe even 0-1 the end is in sight but hopefully there is far more clarity in March.
Gaz
I said to my wife this morning that my gut feeling around schools was that P4-P7 would be back a couple of weeks before the Easter holidays with a full return afterwards and that seems about right. I'm guessing the extension of more senior phase pupils prior to Easter is to get them in to sit evidence-gathering assessments.

England's plan is that, by the end of any of the stages, there won't be any further geographical levels that divide regions of the country. That's vastly different from Scotland going from lockdown to tiers across the country, which for several regions would just be lockdown by another name. I think deep down she believes that Boris has fucked it and will inevitably need to go back on his word. The impression I get is that she doesn't want to do that.
David W
The tier system was an absolute riot the first time around. Completely arbitrary movement between tiers, staggering inconsistencies within them. It simply didn't work. Why are we going back to that?

As usual the most sensible poster on the thread ^^ I think it feels worse because it's coming the day after Johnson was promising the world. The Scottish Government approach here is far more realistic. Surely something like gyms, fives parks or barbers could open a bit sooner than 9 weeks time?

There is still no ‘end’ in clear sight here. And maybe she’s unable to give that in good faith, but it is disappointing to say the least.

It's basically plough through the JCVI groups into mid April, then see where we lie after that.

By mid-March we'll almost certainly have stronger evidence around efficacy and transmission, better information about forthcoming vaccine supply and with some luck we'll have seen hospitals emptying and death rates cratering. I'd hoped to hear a bit more about beyond April - though we know the tier system as it was constituted before was meant to release things slowly to a point of essentially only some restrictions regarding indoor socialising in level 0.
