George Floyd/Black Lives Matter Protests

Recommended Posts

There’s such a lot to like about America, and in many respects, Americans are good people. No better, no worse, than Scots, or anyone. My god though, in so many other ways, it’s completely fcuked in the head.

I see on Twitter Peckham is trending because there are BLM protests on the go. Not really chuffed about c***s breaking social distancing rules to moan about goings on in a country in which they don’t live.

Seen a few videos of black English folk getting arrested for refusing drug searches & subsequently being let go for having no drugs, it's not the same level but the issue in its general sense isn't exclusive to America.

And that would be fine if people were responding to that but they’re actually responding to a high profile story from a foreign country whose news  is given far more priority than news from other countries.

Apologies. Highly problematic but relatively harmless referendum, crushed by a fascistic paramilitary police force brought from across the country in Disney cruise ships. Better?

Yes.

It's black people highlighting how they're treated by the police wherever. Minneapolis is just a touch paper for it. Like women talking about #metoo without having been fingered by Harvey Weinstein.

And that would be all well and good if the people of Peckham chose to join in with primarily American issues with which they feel affinity when we’re not all meant to be socially distancing.

It strikes me as the RL equivalent of putting a French flag on your Facebook profile picture after the Paris attacks.

You can usually see this stuff, bit confused why you can't see it in this case.

I completely empathise with black people and the maltreatment they face although I couldn’t properly understand it, I just think bandwagoning on American politics has its place and it’s not when lots of people are dying from a virus fuelled by large gatherings.

Yeah that's one of the most shocking ones. No prosecutions as far as I know.

When was the last time a policeman here was prosecuted, found guilty of killing someone, and went to jail ?

'The system' always manages to find an excuse...., the thing goes off to IPCC ( or whatever it's called these days ),

the media goes silent, the case gets 'lost' in a fog of 'under investigation', and eventually it's all forgotten about.

Unless your the poor b*****d's friends or family.

I find it more culturally alien than most places I've been. Kept getting into trouble with the normal to and fro chat I do here, or anywhere in Europe, with a bit of mutual teasing. If it's not someone you know well a lot of them take mild disagreement like you've just called their Mother a whore.

Had a large guy start on us in Florida because he said to my Irish mate that he was Irish, mate said “f**k off really where?” and he said St Louis but was absolutely furious and screaming at us about how my mate (obviously sarcastically) told him to f**k off and how rude that, he only stopped because a Scottish colleague of his came over and explained it then took him away.
