The team on Thursday would have scooshed this.

The team today created considerably more chances than the team on Thursday. It was let down by having a centre forward (an enforced change) who made a complete arse of three good chances, while two other chances were met with excellent saves. Put Dykes in that team for McBurnie with the other 10 being the same and we'd have had it wrapped up by half time.

That has to be time up on McBurnie starting games. If you're being extremely charitable you could at least argue that he was involved in our build up play in the first half despite his sitters, but he was a complete liability in the second. He got 90 minutes to the detriment of the team to give him every opportunity to show something and he failed. If we're holding on to a one goal lead with Dykes unavailable he's worth a runout to shitfest the last five minutes, but when you need a goal he's actively a hindrance.

We need to the be the highest ranked League B team. We may have just thrown that away.

One of the two highest ranked League B group winners, correct? Basically if we win the group, so long as two of the other League B winners - i.e. Austria/Norway, Russia/Hungary/Turkey, or Wales/Finland - finish first or second in their WC qualifying group then we'd take a play-off spot.

I am also assuming that none of the League A winners finish third in the WC group...

Absolutely no way we deserved to lose that. Israel is a must win, not just to make sure we win the group but to give us a shot at being in the best two Group B winners.

There's nothing specific about being in the best two League B group winner btw. The best two group winners in any League who haven't already qualified for the World Cup or the World Cup play-offs will get those spots. It might be that both of those spots end up with League A teams, or the worst group winner in League B might end up with one. We just don't know. What we do know is that we need to finish as high as possible.

Would rest a good few for this one, and then bring out the 'full' team for Israel, if needed. Hopefully, the Czechs will draw with Israel anyway...so,

----------------------Marshall-----------------------

-----------McKenna---Cooper---Considine-------

--Palmer---------McLean---Jack------------------Tierney

------------------------Armstrong----------------------------

-----------------McBurnie--------Griffiths-------------------

Israel game....

-----------------------Marshall---------------------------------

---------McTominay---Gallagher---Tierney-------------------

-SOD---------------McGinn---Jack---------------Robertson---

------------------------McGregor---------------------------------

------------------Christie--------Dykes----------------------------

Still think  the team was the right selection for today, Thursday night must have been draining mentally and physically. We can now play the 'big' team for Wednesday night, and go all out for a win to seal the group. Still hoping for a Czech-Israel draw tonight to lessen the pressure, but that side should be good enough to get a win on Wednesday of need be.

Tbf, a glance at the conga vid and the amount of booze on the tables suggests they were a wee bit more than "tipsy"
The players also spoke of 3 hours sleep, 4 at best

I know they were up late but I just don't believe they got steaming. I know it was a huge night but I can't see this management team allowing it.

Well, yes.  Losing 3 points from that match is all the harder to take because of the potential missed opportunity it represents.

It also guarantees us Pot 3 for WC qualification, when there was still a chance of Pot 2.

True, but it would be highly unlikely that any League A winner will not at least finish top two in the qualifiers. Also possible that the best League B winners could have already qualified, but being in the top two B winners would make it extremely likely that we get a play-off.

Seems like we can swap defenders without an obvious dip in quality, but with fwds its dykes or shite. In some respects that's not a bad place to be, given that 12 months ago we were fragile all over the pitch.
Considine on the right of the three was definitely a drop in quality. If McTominay gets injured/suspended then we need a right-footed player in there. I thought John Souttar was going to make that place his own but his calamity v Israel + always being injured has put a bit of a dampener on that.

Declan Gallagher used to play that role for Livi and I'm surprised he hasn't been given a chance there. I think he'd do a better job that Considine there

This might seem like a small-time attitude, but expecting a nation that recently got horsed against Kazakhstan and have had so many obituaries written for them over the past 18 months to suddenly get 16/18 points against teams ranked around them as well as qualify for the Euros is unfair. We've seen so much progress lately, have largely got results to reflect that and have an unbelievable chance of being in the same tier as the best sides in Europe.

Just to follow up on that, he has 14 caps - 7 starts, 7 sub appearances.

In over 11 hours of football with McBurnie on the pitch, Scotland have scored one goal (McGinn v Russia).
