There needs to be a concerted effort to prioritise Hampden redevelopment now.

Its the only chance of getting central government funding diverted, the SFA bigwig dampening expectations at this early point is an absolute disgrace

Good luck with that!

Given that the good people and politicians of Northern Ireland are more than capable of screwing things up Edinburgh should be angling to be on standby to fill in for Belfast if Casement Park doesn't happen

The problem with a second stadium in Scotland is that if you choose either OF ground, the other side will kick off about it, and if you choose Murrayfield, some absolute weirdos will kick off because they don’t like rugby stadiums for whatever reason.

If any stadium drops out you can bet that Wembley will be given the extra games.

You're understandable worrying about what a few supporters will feel about the idea but that doesn't seem relevant to the decision making process

Murrayfield has huge amounts of banqueting suites for people in Blazers and Edinburgh has more posh hotels and Michelin stars than  Belfast or Leeds

UEFA are unlikely to have a problem with the idea

Would the SRU want Murrayfield to be used?  Or is it just a matter of greasing the palms enough?

The SRU only really use it for the six nations in February/March and then the autumn matches. Scotland matches in the summer are usually played away from home and the SRU are more than happy to rent it out for major music gigs. No reason why they wouldn’t accept the same cash from UEFA.

And if they've got any ambitions of being the primary host for a future Rugby World Cup they'd have to ask Football for the reverse arrangement

SRU never have and probably never will try to host a Rugby World Cup - at best they'll might tag along Murrayfield in say an Irish bid like did with France in 2007.

I'm sure they'd be quite happy to rent out Murrayfield for Euros football... they participated in Euro 2008 bid, have hosted Hearts + Celtic, League Cup SF, plus rented it for Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester Utd glamour friendlies.

I suspect the opposition would be from within football.

Looks like a distinct possibility..

Has there been any suggestion as to what happens to the games set to be in Northern Ireland if Casement doesn't get built? Just spread amongst the existing stadia from the bid?

Well I suggested that Edinburgh lines herself up as first reserve and I’m confident that the powers that be keep an eye on P&B for good ideas so they must have seen it

I do slightly odd things to occupy myself during bouts of insomnia. One such distraction was to sketch out an idea for a Hampden redevelopment that remains within the existing footprint. The white bits to East and West would be all new, while the blue would be retained from the existing stadium.

Your basic concept is sound. More than enough space to bring the side stands closer and make steeper. Believe already several such projects in Germany.  The one thing most clubs lack for redevelopment is space, in abundance at Mount Florida.

Casement Park: 'Considerable amount' still needed for project says Gordon Lyons - BBC News

Redevelopment of Casement Park could require £200m to complete work by 2027

The Stormont minister in charge of the redevelopment of Casement Park stadium in west Belfast has said a "considerable" amount of money still needs to be found for the project to go ahead.

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons said funding remained a "big difficulty". The stadium must be completed by the summer of 2027, at the latest. This is in order to host games in the Euro 2028 soccer tournament. Although it will be primarily for GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) games, the 34,500-capacity stadium is one of 10 venues in the UK and Ireland due to host matches in the Euros.

The original cost of the Casement Park redevelopment was £77.5m, but that was a decade ago. In an interview with BBC News NI, it was put to the minister that the cost could now exceed £200m. He said: "The number isn't finalised but even if it was … for commercial reasons I can't go into the details of what that might be.

The GAA has said it is willing to pay at least £15m, with other funding coming from Stormont, plus the British and Irish governments. Mr Lyons said he did not yet have clarity on how much the London and Dublin governments are willing to contribute but said the amounts would be "key".

Asked if he was confident that Casement Park could be rebuilt in time for Euro 2028, Mr Lyons said that is "entirely dependent upon the funding envelope being made available".
