2022 Scottish Local Elections 5th May ** Official Match Thread**

Recommended Posts

It will be interesting to se how much Sturgeon's control freakery/protections affects the vote is at all. I realise that I spend far too much time on the Coronavirus thread so my views might be a wee bitty tainted 😆 but I do get the feeling from speaking to my more sane friends that they're mostly pissed off by the restrictions as well. Unlike me though, it isn't going to affect their vote for the SNP.

And yes, I do know that this is a local election and they have no say in the big questions surrounding the mask mandate so it is an utterly futile and meaningless gesture but I just can't bring myself to vote for them.

The list was published today and I don't see me voting for any of them.

SNP are a no.

I can't vote Tory while I still have a soul.

Lib Dem local leader is a complete twat and I don't trust him to be behind the new stadium plan.

I dislike the independent and again I get the feeling she would rather there were no football thugs roaming the streets of Aberdeen.

The Labour party are happy to allow bigots to stand for the council (though not in Aberdeen as far as I know)

I'm not a tree hugger and still have friends who work in oil and gas so Green is a no as well.

The lists for the Highlands are up and here's some stuff I've noticed - the aforementioned German porn star is running for the Family Party in Sutherland.  They also have a Freedom Alliance candidate in that ward.  The former MSP Chris Ballance is running for the Greens in Loch Ness again.  The Libertarians are standing in East Sutherland and Inverness Ness-Side.  The Independence for Scotland Party are standing in Inverness West.  Inverness Central have a TUSC candidate. The former MSP for the Highlands for the Tories Mary Scanlon is standing in Culloden and Ardersier.

The only difference I can find between The Independence for Scotland Party and the SNP is that they're against self ID for trans folk.

My green candidate in Dunfermline Central is not only a Dunfermline fan but also seems to be a Cambridge graduate. So a good posh brainy kant.

He also went to St Andrews so I'm wondering if @Shandon Par has been to Cambridge to study painting and decorating?

The local Lib Dem councillor, also in Dunfermline, has been round and the missus spoke to him for a wee while. He seems to have done a few bits and bobs in the area so I'll probably vote for him (always used to vote Lib Dem in the council elections when I lived down south, they seemed to be more focused on local issues). The Labour leaflet says that the SNP always go on about Independence without hint of irony and not had anything from the SNP, Greens or Tories.

What I got up to in Cambridge couldn’t be posted on P&B!

To their credit they also came round here, however their candidate doesn't live in the ward and her election material talks about the SNP focusing on Independence which hasn't been my experience of their excellent councillors in Dalgety Bay and Inverkeithing

Used to have a Lib Dem councillor here but after two terms they were narrowly beaten by Labour into third place last time around - the candidate this time is nobody I've ever heard of and can't find them on Google. Likewise the Green candidate unknown here and lives elsewhere in Fife but at least I've found a picture of her on a bike.

Outwith the shallow pool of the c thread where this is received wisdom, what evidence is there, other than political badinage, for this?

Her sister.

And by her own admission.

A run down of the smaller parties

Volt are a bit of an odd one - the one party running who still have an MEP!  Is the Workers Party running Galloway's mob?  Seems like the SSP are circling the drain now.

Do you really expect me to give The Scotsman the benefit of my click?

And really!

But let's say there is a scintilla of truth to it, what would you expect of a leader?

You don't need to click it. The headline gives you what you were asking for.

You shouldn't get so upset when someone criticises Sturgeon. She is not all there is to the independence cause. Hopefully when she fucks off there will be a more competent, less forgetful and less of a control freak to lead us to independence.

As you've already alluded to, perhaps you are jaundiced by association.

A Scotsman headline, is that all you have?

Lucky there is no Alba candidate.

Having your cock out for inspection like that would surely be regarded as a vote for them by any Returning Officer worth their salt.
