Strikers would just stand a couple of feet further forward than they do now, and then you are back to square one working out whether the striker's back foot (rather than front foot) is in line with the defender. It's like people are looking at current offside decisions and think changing the law as you suggest would make it really easy, completing ignoring that if the law became any body part in line then the striker would just adjust their position to be right on the limit again. It's the equivalent of suggesting that to fix the issue of whether the ball has crossed the goal line we just move the goal line back a couple of feet. I didn't say it would make it easier. I said it would give the benefit of the doubt back to the attacker. Goals are being disallowed for borderline offside decisions which are analysed to death afterwards and people still can't decide. The change I've mentioned wouldn't affect where they stand. That's nonsense. The margins are so fine that a player wouldn't even have time to take that in to account. https://www.sportbible.com/football/croatia-belgium-var-offside-world-cup-079273-20221201 If we're going to a video review to disallow a penalty due to this offside then it's fucked.
raith_94
It isn't offside, it should be offside, VAR is a pile of shite - but geez, football in contentious offside shocker..... it was thus before and since VAR. All that's changed is folk (fans/managers) now have even more moments to get enraged/deflect about. Get it in the bin. Why is nobody asking Guardiola why title-chasing, billionaire City's (who apparently "played well") only effort on target in a huge derby game was a Jack Grealish header. United had Luke Shaw at centreback FFS.

A big problem for me is that when VAR was introduced it seems as though the rules/advice to refs was changed to help make VAR decisions easier. Despite the vast majority of games throughout the world not using VAR. The offside rule has been absolutely b*****dised as seen yesterday. The “interfering with play” line was fine - anyone with common sense knew what it meant but because of VAR they’ve tried to make the rule as black and white as possible - in the process complicating it needlessly - and a by-product of that is horrendous decisions like that one yesterday. The same goes for the handball rule. Most folk who weren’t idiots were able to ascertain what was and what wasn’t a handball. But again in attempt to make things easier for VAR officials the rule has been complicated with all this shite about “unnatural” positions.
eez-eh
Another case in point is the very discussion on this thread. We’re now contemplating changing the body parts that need to be offside. Almost no one cared about that before VAR but it’s now a discussion because we now have goals being retrospectively ruled out because the attacker’s bellend was offside. Get VAR and the associated rule changes in the fucking sea.
Bairnardo
Let's see another tanking for Chelsea today please. With a side order of humiliation for Spurs at the hands of The Arse. Wins all round for the proper football clubs. IMO.

Theroadlesstravelled
It would be very enjoyable to see The Assnel lose the league at this stage but with that Man Utd goal being given against City I reckon it’s their year.
