Why are people in coutts having to resign though?

Just assumed it was a non-story

Discussing customers’ accounts with the press is preposterous to be fair, Farage or not. Another one for the ‘the people in charge are fucking numbskulls’ scrapbook.

TBH the mistake they made was putting any of it down on paper, so it would inevitably emerge after any FOI/Subject access request.

He's an utterly slimey, sleekit b*****d himself, so Coutts should simply have had a couple of execs meet at a random water dispenser and agree 'are we punting this arsehole? Aye? Naw?'

There seem to be next to no other regulations forcing banks to conduct their business in any other specific way, so I can't see why that would be perceived as problematic.

Having a dossier isn't illegal though despite the mewlings from Farage.

I'm pretty sure no one, including Farage, has claimed that having a dossier is illegal.

The claiming that an action was solely taken over a financial threshold when your dossier shows that wasn't the case and then lying about it is a little more problematic for an entity that is nearly 40% owned by the Government who already have issues with PEPs isn't going to end well.

The boss of Coutts, Peter Flavel, has now resigned.

But Coutts have the last laugh on Farage.  News on Flavel's replacement:

Quote

Mohammad Kamal Syed is set to take over as the boss of Coutts on an interim basis.

100% this. How they could be so stupid is beyond me.

This is a sunmmary of the dossier.

The conclusion is that there is no issue with the contents of the dossier itself, going as far to say that although Farage's political leanings were reviewed they did not actually influence the final decision which was a commercial decision.

The only issue of concern is that of the information given to the BBC by Coutts  - a breach of GDPR.  But there is something of a conflict here as well - Farage brought the issue into the public domain, but then the bank are not allowed to respond to the charlatan's lies.

No no, none of that. Poor Nigel was unfairly attacked by the woke liberal elite banking mob because he says what normal everyday normal British - BRITISH! - people normally think, and no amount of 'facts' or 'documented evidence' will change that.

To be fair, Nigel the grifter has a point in terms of how Coutts dealt with this.  However, let us compare the volume of publicity given to what happened to him and what happened to the victims of the Post Office IT scandal.  And consider what forces are driving the news agenda in the UK.  I wonder what the next dead cat wil be.

They should have told the BBC to bolt regards any interview.

I think they were fucked no matter what they did - if they had kept stum there's no doubt Farage would have played the bank is hiding something card.

It's just another game for him to up his profile.

The BBC also needs challenging - not just for the interview but giving this c**t a platform in the first place.  They should have just ignored his whinging shite completely and treated as they would any other dispute between a customer and a bank.

What's probably more disturbing is the number of people who think companies should accommodate racists no matter what. As ever we have the lazy use of "woke" - a word that is increasingly used to shut down debate. Watching the likes of Braverman running to defend Farage is fucking nauseating. Her calling Coutts dossier sinister was absolutely rich when the security services in this country hold millions of dossiers on people who have done nothing more than have leftwing views.

You make that sound like a bad thing...

If Farage was to start a new political party tomorrow there’s a sizeable minority of otherwise Tory voters who would support it.  Sunak, Braverman and Co. are desperate not to alienate these people.

A free speech party would garner serious support given the way things have been going, especially over the last decade or so.

Farage could hardly lead it, he's never off the airwaves and printed press. Maybe Jeremy Corbyn could give it ago, he gets cancelled every time he opens his mouth.

That's the last thing Farage wants - free speech would mean his shite could be challenged without him hiding behind the law.

It's seems it's fine for him to fucking lie about a business but said business is not allowed to come out and challenge his shite.
