What is that worth? who's linking him? his agent, the media? We'll see if and when he makes a move.

It's an extensive list historically of transfers that never were. Robertson was linked with Real Madrid. McTominay and Patterson with Bayern Munich. Hickey with Manchester City. McGinn and Robbie McCrorie with Manchester Utd. Tierney with ahem Celtic to name a few off the top of my heid.

A page back was someone asking what sort of clubs he'd been linked with in the media.

Ferguson playing tonight at 7:45pm on TNT if anyone wants to watch him

It's also on ITVX for those without TNT. Part of the new ITV deal where they show the Saturday evening kick off.

A dreadful game so far, Ferguson booked for absolutely crunching someone in a pointless area of the park

He's past it, where's the next emerging talent? give him a crack.

Gutter for the boy if true

Confirmed - needs an operation on his cruciate ligament.

Absolutely devastated for him - probably puts his big move on hold too.

Yeh that's the worst thing about it, probably wouldn't have started many games this euros but he was potentially looking at a life-changing move in the summer. Worst possible timing

Yeah - he was very close to starting and would have played a part so ruins some of our top quality depth too.

Yeah he would have offered something very useful off the bench, and has real top level experience which would have helped. We still have the likes of Christie and Armstrong so it's not like we've got nothing there, but it's a definite blow.

Wonder if Clarke will look for some sort of like for like replacement in terms of an attacking midfielder now, struggling to think of exactly who is an option. In terms of guys he's used before, Turnbull hasn't really turned it on at Cardiff and Fleck is done, so it could be someone more left field, but it feels too early for any of the U21s or U19s in that position. Obviously you can go back to the Anderson question but you assume he's not going to have changed his mind.

First and foremost terrible news for the player, just ahead of what could have been his breakthrough tournament and when he's doing so well in Italy. That's 100% the most important thing. Hopefully his recovery is good and his career will be back on track by this time next year.

From a Scotland point of view it's bad news but we were always likely to lose someone from the definite squad members. We'll be fortunate if it's only him. Given he wasn't massively likely to start in a first choice eleven it could have been worse. However, he'd have been one of the first off the bench and, if we make any progress in the tournament and need to rest guys like McGinn, McGregor and McTominay then his absence will be felt all the more keenly. Also enormously increases the importance of Ryan Christie and probably Stuart Armstrong.

As you say, not the most obvious position to replace on a like for like basis. Can't see Turnbull being called at this stage. One obvious possibility as a midfielder is opening up a slot for Ryan Jack but he's certainly more defensive and significant doubts about his own fitness also. From a more attacking point of view it maybe opens up an opportunity for a late call to Ryan Gauld as so many would like, or even a return to the fold of Ryan Fraser, although he's not currently an automatic starter for Southampton. Perhaps even that mythical 4th striker spot now lets a returning Jacob Brown, Ross Stewart or Kevin Nisbet into the squad without having to displace one of the other three?

Who replaces him?

If Lewis Ferguson definitely misses the tournament it could be said that no-one replaces him and any decision around the midfielders is taken away. So 8 midfielders including Ryan Jack or 7 without.

In the midfield area, there are seven this time [March]. Obviously, Ryan (Jack) and Callum (McGregor) would be strong candidates to join that, but I can’t see me taking nine midfield players. So that will be another decision for me to make.

Steve Clarke

Alternatively if it's assumed that Ferguson was definitely in the squad then it will go to a different position, probably an attacker or maybe a spare full-back given Clarke's comments around the centre-backs in March.

There’s a lot of centre-halves in there as well. I’m not going to be taking all those centre-backs, so there is a similar situation there. They have to impress, they have to play well at their clubs if given the opportunity to play, and then I’ve got to make the selection.

Steve Clarke

If the squad is increased to 26 then that might change the dynamic.

I'd be happy to see that player, Armstrong, from Kilmarnock in the squad.

Here we go. 😂
