When did people start saying ‘melt’? Another one is calling someone ‘trash’, although that is an Americanism that I think has come from Twitter.

I used to consider that melt was slang for your face (yer melt) but it seems to have evolved away from that.

I think it's a southern English thing. Proper slang for your face is clearly yer puss.

Melt’s recent resurgence comes down to the Corbyn surge and the woke left having a self-imposed limited vocabulary to insult people

Think that comes from "trailer trash", yank snob term for "scheme goblin".

P p p p p pick up a penguin...

A man who sold two penguins on Facebook after stealing them from a zoo in Cumbria has been jailed.

Bradley Tomes received a jail sentence of two years and eight months at Preston Crown Court for stealing exotic birds worth £53,000 from South Lakes Safari Zoo in Cumbria.

The 25-year-old, who previously worked at the zoo, stole two Humboldt penguins - which are native to the Pacific Coast of Chile and Peru - called Pablo and Penny

If he'd done this in Russia he would have been sent to the Pingulag.

Taa daa!

Are "the projects" not the Yankee-doo equivalent of our housing schemes?

I think trailer trash generally own their own lot/trailer, and are very proud of it. Not sure what they make of us seeing their homes as down-market holiday accommodation, however.

There seems to be more "wids" come out of Yankee trailers than Scottish schemes

That's true of the countries in general TBH.

We are not an attractive people.

I'm about an hours drive from that zoo just now if anyone wants any penguins brought back.
