I was a 70s kid - we used to write programs in ALGOL which were sent off to Edinburgh University and we'd get the printouts back a few days later. One day they actually brought the computer in to let us see it - it was the size of a fridge. And probably had less computing power than my phone does now.

Given the average iPhone or recent Android is over 1000 times as powerful as a high-end mid-80’s mainframe, there’s a fair chance a bedside alarm clock or a small kitchen appliance is more powerful than that 70’s computer.
