It’s probably down to Loyalist fans not loyal fans that Ayr have such a pish support for such a large town given most of the locals are Rangers fans.

Very true pal, our Ultras are key to us bucking that trend. We are now attracting young kids to TFS cos they want to be part of the Ultra scene who would otherwise be lost to the arse chheks.

This too. Whilst every town, city and village in Scotland will have an OF contingent, it’s incredibly disheartening to see the three buses that leave from the Redstone in Ayr heading for Ibrox. You can also spot the OF fans when they decide to come to Somerset. They haven’t a clue who half our players are and last season quite a lot of the “loyalist” fans took pleasure in constantly slating Aiden McGeady whenever he was on the pitch.

Kilmarnock have done a good job in breaking through the OF support in the town but they’ve had a lot more consistent success by way of two cup wins in the last 30 years and a few finishes in the top six. We’re never going to equal that whilst we’re in the Championship.

I feel your pain and honestly I cannot under estimate how much the Ultras group have assisted us in attracting youngsters away from treading the usual route to both sides of the arse cheeks. It’s refreshing what’s going on with us.

That’s something that I think the club are starting to try and embrace. Under previous ownership the “ultras” felt forced out and whilst there’s lines you can’t really cross, certain people in the club came down quite hard on them.

As of the last couple of years Smith and Mathie have reached out to younger fans and offered help by having a permanent fixture in the SRE for a drum, replacing banners and so on. There has to still be a respect on both sides for it to work but the atmosphere on Friday was as good as it’s been in ages. Doesn’t help that the BBC turn the mics right down to make it sound like a library on the tele.

Just now, grahamston said:

Oh, you just had to mention that.

It’s hard to accept but I think there has to be an acceptance that our main rivals are way ahead of us right now. How we get there I don’t really know as the route Kilmarnock took in the 90s was one that could’ve easily backfired.

The 3-3 draw in 1986 @HopeStreetWalker

The worst display of blatant, don't give a shit cheating you will ever see in a match. Worse than anything the OF bought and paid for referees ever cooked up.

Willie Miller was then, and might be yet, the c*nts' c*nt, which takes some doing considering the competition. Utterly despicable specimen.

I’ve a nephew from Grangemouth that’s got involved with going to the games second quarter last season. Now part of the KM ultras and with a few mates now regular attendees. His folks are now attending games (primarily to keep an eye on) but now STs. Five or more new fans that predominantly from the “OF” establishment.

The second sentence is irrefutable but the first is incorrect.  No c*nt likes Willie Miller.

I see there seems to be a fair bit of chat about Dundee's Luke McCowan possibly moving to Celtic.

Assuming the smaller dark blues got £££ for him, could we foresee them sticking in an offer for oor Callumn? 🤔

The point you were trying to make wasn’t entirely accurate though.

As a club we have a core support of about 1000. We have a huge number of lapsed fans on top of that that might take in the odd game but aren’t going to commit to a season ticket for a number of reasons. The whole point of our chairman commenting on how many we’re getting through the gate is that the club are doing a huge amount of work to get the attendances up but realistically the only thing to bring people in is winning games. Something that we haven’t done with any consistency for years. It isn’t some cry for help as you seem to portray it. The club are in no more financial danger than your average club. Fans like to assume that an opposition team signing good players equals spending way beyond their means and that if that team doesn’t get promoted then they are going to fall off a cliff and be in trouble. In reality most owners aren’t going to put their club in that position especially when that owner has been a fan of the club since he was a young boy.

Our signings don’t even indicate that any huge amount of spending has taken place. Have we signed anyone that suggests we’ve outbid top flight teams for their signature or we’ve had to break the bank to get in?

Couple of things there. Just looking at your average attendances seems to indicate an increase anyway in the last decade. We all know as town clubs often playing second fiddle to the ugly sisters it is very hard to increase walk up crowds more than a few percentiles (not much monetary gain anyway) - surely a substantial uptick will be very hard to attain?

Secondly, a marketing point. Having a guy in a suit telling the locals to come out cos the team is doing well now (2 games in to the season…) is a shiter. Desperate stuff. He may well be right but it just doesn’t work

Nothing to say he won't have a good season but I'd imagine any clubs interested in Callumn will wait to see how he does between now and January before considering submitting an offer.

You'd think at some point there would be a drop off in fans supporting the OF maybe we're starting to see that happen (with any luck).

Lots of factors at play, including cost to take kids when they're most likely to get the bug.  How much easier it is these days for the fun in being involved with Ultra groups to be shared online and clubs embracing those can only help.  European success is also almost completely out of reach now for the OF, especially the CL with its new format which makes it almost impossible for any teams to break into the dominance of the big league teams.  Possile to get through a few 2 leg games, impossible to get through an 8 team league and the humpings are getting bigger too.  A European away game for the OF is now like going to Ibrox or Parkhead with an injury ravaged team and hoping to get away with 3 nil or less.  With The Rangers now routinely sh*t and miles behind the crowds at Hampden for them recently have been terrible.  When they lose interest Celtic fans will too (hopefully).

Overall crowds are up across the country, not just us.  Raith, Dunfermline, Ayr etc and a lot of the premier teams too.  Football in Scotland seems to be booming in a lot of ways despite cost of living challenges etc while those two suffer.  Long may it continue!

Comments on the forum regarding people from towns going to watch the Old Firm and often pass their home town's stadium in doing so.

They are not Fans - Supporters whatever. They are Trophy Hunters and should be called out as such. Referring to them as Fans - Supporters just gives a credibility they don't deserve. Apart from that it is most entertaining as they try to justify to you why they are not a Trophy Hunter and fail digging themselves a hole for incoming derision, ridicule and piss takes in front of an audience.

Most of us have pals who are OF fans. To my mind, they fall generally into two categories. Those who are diehard, decent fans like any of us who go to games because of a family connection (esp Glasgow overspill families) or segregated schooling. And those who are on the outer ring, who have less of a connection, glory hunters or into the “politics” of it all. The former group we’ll never get, but the latter, I’ve seen several folk over the years come into the Falkirk fold.

I don’t think you’ll find any Ayr fan saying that the marketing doesn’t need to improve. The point of the interview wasn’t to get fans to come in through the gate as the only people following the social media channels are either already coming along, opposition fans or people involved in Scottish football. The real point of the video was to confirm what every Ayr fan was already thinking and that there’s a real chance of a new investor coming to the club.

I’ve said on many occasions that until the arse cheeks GTF, the stranglehold on our game will continue to look after the chosen few. The imbalance from the top league finances to the championship and below is almost unsustainable and the debts that many clubs are carrying cannot be sustained. We’ve got ICT publicly announcing that if Tuesdays meeting with all people they have loans/debt with goes wrong, they could be out of business. SPL status two years ago? How many more on the brink ? and were two games into the new season ?

It’s been 7 or 8 years since ICT were in the top flight.
