Yes. St Johnstone are worried we won't have enough fans to fill 10% of our stadium. Thats because our support is shit and tiny, most of us are farmers and are out harvesting, and we should probably be in the fourth tier if the league was decided on crowd size.

There we go, I've saved us all a day.

On another note, why do the people of Perth not get behind the club ? Serious question mate.

I remember them getting very decent crowds when they first moved to the new ground but that seemed to disappear after a couple of seasons.

Because they're all moaning old b*****ds, or minky Old Firm fans.

Theres a substantial amount of people in Perth seem to think its better to watch the EPL in a pub and call Scottish football shite rather than actually go to a game.

Have to say having watched a few International games recently and a charity shield match, and only briefly a few SPL 0-0 draws- I am never complaining About the entertainment value in League 1 and Championship again!

Yeah that's what I thought but it's always worth asking.

The farmers thing is not an excuse as I have a mate who supports Norwich , he says most of them are all farmers as well but they regularly pack their stadium out. So it must be something else.

Not buying that. It won’t be any different in every provincial town all over Scotland. The reality is historically Perth is not a place where football was the first love.

Not buying what?

We're making the same point. Folk in Perth have no interest in St Johnstone.

See Inverness also.

Thankfully, like St Johnstone, enough people care locally so that we have some kind of fan base and income from that, and enough local men willing to be directors and try to keep the club afloat.  As it stands, I've accepted that The Caley will probably be a tier 2 club predominantly, with a few clusters of Premiership seasons thrown in along the way.  We'll never get 4-5000 at home regularly.  There's just too many Celtic and Rangers fans here, who are having kids and bringing them up as Celtic and Rangers fans, and too many incomers who have no affiliation with The Caley, or they already support someone else (a Barclays team).

Your club consistently over deliver. Right owner, Recruit well at management and player level and turn  around good transfer fees.

Good luck to you !

You're correct.

But with St J being an established Premiership club for some time with everything you've mentioned in your post  it's clear this is as good as it gets for them, yet still they have very small crowds.

It's hard to see how they move forward from this, there's no potential for growth.

The very best St J can aspire to is top six Premiership finish and good cup runs.
This they have been doing fairly regularly in recent times.
As you say absolutely no chance of further progression and sooner or later a bad spell will likely see them in the Championship.
However even with our larger crowds we couldn’t hope for any better and obviously have grievously underachieved in comparison to the Saintees (fucking awful nickname).

The club has started to pump money into the youth system, and target young players who can be sold on. Presumably the hope is for a big transfer fee every year or two that allows the budget to stay at top flight level.

We used to do that. We actually were well renowned & admired for it.

Then a guy called Craig Campbell walked through the doors, kicked all the kids out at Xmas & closed our academy , employed a Superscout to hoover up all the utter shite in the English lower (& upper) leagues and now we're in Division 3.

Good luck with your youth system , certainly the way to go. It also helps to have very youth level team playing the same way as the first team so younger players can be promoted quicker.

A month until the new season starts, any sign of the back up keeper or absolute powerhouse of a centre back? I'll take made up rumours at this point.

No really any point in signing a backup keeper the now and probably paying him for a month. More likely he'll appear at the last minute.

The model used by STJ has been excellent for them, strict financial management/handling from the tea lady to the major shareholders/Mr Brown.
The facts are that we have a decent/healthy support who have continued to support the club regardless of the shocking state of affairs which have manifested over the club since relegation from the big league. The last two years have seen us fall to a new low, two managers which have set the club in a downwards spiral, and although rookies we now have a couple of guys who have played and know what the club means to us the fans, this doesn’t win you leagues, but at least we have two guys that give a Fck.
The recents statements and actions from the club give a little hope that we will finally see changes our club requires to compete with the likes of STJ. It won’t happen overnight but we live in hope.

Meaningful changes mean that. Not some sticking plaster that still has some floating about that have taken us to here.

Anyone else getting that horrible feeling that we won’t be returning to stadiums anytime soon ?

Christmas is now the latest marker seen as ultra critical for the economy. Wouldn’t be surprised if there is nowt before then.
