pozbaird
HMRC - The Costa Concordia of Government Tax Collection The talk on SSN is that HMRC want to hammer Rangers because they were sick of being 'pushed around' by football clubs, most recently Portsmouth. They don't seem to have done very well so far... eye off the ball? Out-smarted by Whyte? Just plain fcuking useless?
GreenockRover
Pre-pack must be the plan. Boils down to whether the spl will let new rangers in when it happens. Fixed that for ya

Bottom line is HMRC are too busy chasing small fry like you and me for small amounts of taxation and all too frequently pay too little attention to large companies' dodgy dealings (and I don't just mean football clubs) with their smarter than average lawyers and accountants who read the relevant legislation very carefully and plot their way around it - making them look like bungling idiots. Only question outstanding now is; How do we treat this news ?? Guess that depends on your scarf colour ? WaffenThinMint
Somethng stinks. Lord Menzies was once upon a time Duncan Menzies QC, a thrice Scottish Conservative Party candidate who gained infamy as the government's voice (ie the prosecution) over the Skye Toll Bridge protestors frequent run-ins with the law. Robbie The Pict - the Skye Bridge Protesters cross between Rumpole Of The Bailey and Hagrid - accused the bench presiding the cases of being in cahoots with Menzies, as they all "just happened" to be members of the so-called Speculative Society, a "brotherhood" by invitation only which contains a disproportionate number of Scottish High Court judges, and a disproportionate number of members that also just happen to be members of Scottish Masonic Lodge No 2. Kilwinning (which is actually based in Edinburgh) Looks like the pinky pullers are at it again trying to make it one law for those on the square and those outside.
Nowhereman
Depends. The Administrator is obligated to secure 'best value' for the assets - this can be a highly subjective thing. HMRC appointed Administrators will sell to effectively the highest bidder - regardless of interest or outcome. RFC Administrator will see 'value' in selling to an 'appropriate' bidder whch might continue in the same or similair business (football) to protect employees. See where this is all going now ? Always had a reasonable idea of where I thought it was going. I just wonder how much Whyte already has in place. A fair bit I would have thought presumably with the intention of being out of admin before end of March. Otherwise why do it now rather than later
ayrmad
Im worried. Rangers are going to come out of this much, much easier than they deserve to. The only surprise will be how little Whyte and Co had to shove all in of their own cash while holding the nuts.

MacWatt
All of the above..... Vodafone tax lawyers ran rings round HMRC. Oh and David Hartnett the Head of HMRC enjoyed over 107 breakfasts, lunches and dinners with big companies including Vodafone while billions of pounds of tax were written off. http://www.thisismon...-disasters.html Edited February 14, 2012 by MacWatt

Jamie_B
Mike Edwards from STV News is suggesting on Twitter that the HMRC administration move does not have anything to do with the "big" tax case potential judgement... So does that mean that that debt will be heaped on top should Rangers lose?

Will it really matter, do the maths, someone is going to come out the other end doing well financially, it will not be the taxpayers.
Theeesel
Im worried. Rangers are going to come out of this much, much easier than they deserve to. I dont think so. The fact that there is less money than ever in Scottish football at the moment and the economy is in the state its in. Plus they've got a dodgy owner who doesnt give a f**k about the club. I think they'll get spectacularly f**ked
Jim McLean's Ghost
Mike Edwards from STV News is suggesting on Twitter that the HMRC administration move does not have anything to do with the "big" tax case potential judgement... So does that mean that that debt will be heaped on top should Rangers lose? If Rangers sell there assets to other companies and are liquidated the big tax case just goes away unless HMRC have some recourse against the individuals who oversaw the scheme.
