What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The Shining 9/10

Objectively and factually speaking a great film.

Don't make the mistake of reading the book first; the film can come across as weak sauce by comparison.

Still pisses all over King's TV version, however.

Kick Ass 2.

Really enjoyed it. I'd heard it wasn't as good as the first one but this probably shaded it for me. It was the perfectly length for an entertaining thrill ride of violence and in-jokes. Chloe Grace Moretz was excellent but the woefully underused Jim Carrey character was right up there too.

Definitely worth a watch if you enjoyed the first one, or if you've just got a couple of hours to kill (no pun intended)

Wolf Creek 2

This one's a bit of a disappointment. It really shouldn't have been, given I didn't expect much, but the opening spell of the movie is magnificent, and as tense as any horror scene recently. Unfortunately from there it just descends into a bunch of "same old shit" and brings the hopes that were raised early doors right down. The one good thing about the movie, outside of that opening, is probably a surprisingly quick climax to the whole thing, and the aftermath of that, and once again leaves you wondering what could have been with this one.

3/10

The Village at the End of the World 8/10

Pretty straightforward feature length doco about Niaqornat in North Greenland, a village with a population of 59. Bleak and distant, almost impossible to imagine sustaining any sort of life as we would identify it out there. Really compelling and of interest to anyone who's whiled away the hours exploring the outer reaches of human inhabitation on Google Earth.

Would you Rather 2/10

Desperate to help her ailing brother, a young woman unknowingly agrees to compete in a deadly game of "Would You Rather," hosted by a sadistic aristocrat.

Just so's you know, I fancied the sound of this from your recommendation, and have it downloaded for tonight's entertainment.

You have touched me with your words, sir!

Edit: bollocks, just noticed the score :(

Let us know what ye think, I'd be surprised if it's anything above 'steaming pile of shite' tbh.

Just noticed the way you typed the title, and I think we both downloaded the same dodgy copy ;)

Everyone here quite liked it, TBH. The ending could've been stronger, but could've been a lot worse too. Having said that, my standards are pretty low, and the family are used to being subjected to much worse

Oh, Jeffrey Combs was almost unrecognisable; pretty impressed with him lately. Really don't get the big deal about Sasha Grey though. She stuck out like...well, a porn star in a room of actual actors.

Brian Singer says it might have something to do with magneto being able to mould/creat him the claws again given his ease at controlling wolverines adamantium fused skeleton

X is good but V is the best. Particular the Jason as James Bond part of the opening title sequence.

You were thinking of Part 6: Jason Lives. Watching it right now under duress. It's decent though, you're not wrong. The Bond thing got a good laugh from those old enough to know what it was a reference to.

Also, your old posts - I remembers them 8)

Watched all the Ethan Hawke/Julie Delphy - Midnight, Sunrise, Sunset films and enjoyable them all. Watched the first two on the bounce and quite interesting to see someone age 10 years in 1 minute.

Not for everyone I can't imagine, but I enjoyed the realism. How they managed to capture two strangers walking through a city and more so the background distractions, e.g apologising when bumping in to someone, or just the way you catch a glance with a stranger.

All in all 7.5/10, but the first two 8/10 and the 3rd one, a 6/10 - older, bitter, the love of life lacking and depresssing in stages. The third one is a bit longer too, 1hr 50 I think, whilst the first two are around 80 minutes.

Her - 7/10
Enjoyable. A bit long-winded at times and should of lobbed 30 mins off it. Maybe I like short films, but for arty-farty ventures I always find they are much more enjoyable if shorter. The soundtrack was terrific. The jist of it is a man falls in love with his computer sometime in future. Sounds mental, but don't think we are too far from this happening.

Carrie - the most recent remake (there have been several, surprisingly). Wee misfit lassie from a domineering religious background begins to understand the telekinetic powers that she's blessed with, and...well, without giving too much away, the bullies that have been picking on her suffer accordingly.

Liked the De Palma adaption, despite the usual 'creepy old perv' vibe that his films give off, but I liked this one a little better. The wife tells me it's closer to the book (I read it so long ago that I don't remember), and the slight changes make for a more interesting experience. Everybody is convincingly sympathetic/disgusting/terrifying, and the only thing I didn't appreciate was the very last shot, which was obviously trying to echo the De Palma film, but would've worked better with something a bit more subtle IMO. Still, quality stuff all round.

Edited for religious reasons :P
