I bought a laser thermometer and after a motorway drive, the disc on the side with the suspect caliper was 20 degrees hotter than the one on the other side. I therefore deduced that the caliper I had asked them to check that they said was fine was not in fact fine, and them winding the piston back is where the air got into my system. So new caliper on, brakes bled, and a wee spin confirms I've now got a car with working brakes. Did you do that yourself, and if so have you told the garage?

pub car king
Brake changes are remarkably easy. I did the rear discs and pads on my astra and apart from a few seized bolts and taking my time it was quite straight forward. Biggest faff was bleeding the brakes.

Mechanics are just like gas fitters and electricians, think they know it all.

D.A.F.C
Would a garage weld back together box section metalwork? Better to try a blacksmith? Could prob do it myself, how much would they charge?
Granny Danger
Just got the first service on my Volvo S90, £96 from a local garage we have used before. The Volvo dealership wanted £345.
Ross.
Settled for buying a 6 year old Polo. Reasonable mileage, seems well looked after and came with summer and winter tyres, which will save me a few hundred quid next month when they need to be changed over. Wouldn't have been my first choice but it was a decent price and will do for what I need it for.
MP_MFC
Looking to trade my car in and move up to a dadmobile (any input on Tucson vs Sportage appreciated). Is it wise to wait until I get the car through it's MOT (31/3) or get rid of it before? This will be the first MOT so I don't foresee many issues
pub car king
Get rid of it with a ticket if selling privately, you can bring the mot forward you dont have to wait for the date. If you are trading in the dealers wont give a f**k.
Ron Aldo
I'm currently looking into the prospect of changing my car and was looking into leasing. My current car is about 3/4 of the way through a 4 year PCP deal. The settlement figure is £10.8k and most valuation sites give a rough valuation of £11.5k and up. I'm therefore fairly confident that I'm in positive equity but my question is can I sell the car (either privately or to a dealer) and simply pay the settlement figure or is this likely to cause problems given the car is on PCP. My thinking is I would sell the car, pay off the finance then pocket the equity to put towards a lease but that seems a bit too straightforward. If anyone can enlighten me it would be much appreciated.
Raidernation
Pretty certain you can’t legally sell a car that’s not yours?
alta-pete
I think you can trade it into a dealer who will settle finance/equity and trade you into a new one. If however you want to sell it privately I’m pretty sure you have to settle the finance first before you can sell it on.

No input on those models, but I have a Nissan X-Trail, which is comparable. Would highly recommend.
MP_MFC
Test drove a Tucson today, cracking car, very nice ride. Was all set for it but decided to test drive a Sportage to be sure and it blew me away, just as nice a car and a bit nicer inside. Think that's the one. Was surprised as I really thought the Tucson would be it.
RH33
I bought a mondeo in December. Easily nicest car I’ve had.

And if you're buying 2nd hand then represents much better value than a SUV/Crossover such as the Sportgage or Tucson.
