Trainspotting II / Porno

Recommended Posts

Second time last night, excellent film, much enhanced this time by not being a few pints down!

The scene in Leith Central station is absolutely pivotal to the whole story. Tim Bell (Leith Walks tour guide) has written excellently on this. Very short version is the symbolism of the dereliction of the old Leith station in early 80s with the dereliction of Leith and its people, resulting in the drugs and HIV epidemic. So Trainspotting in Leith became a sort of byword for junkies and fatalism. Something like that - he writes on this better than I can!

Was really impressed with Jonny Lee Miller second time round. That look on his face as he opens up his pub at the end of the film...

Great pair of films, definitely a worthy sequel.

Hopeful Begbie story is continued into a Blade Artist film...

Trying to equate them with a group that tie black people to trailers and hang them from trees? Aye that sounds reasonable...

What "specific views and belief?" Is it you object to?
Support for the union, monarchy, solidarity with the people of Ulster and for some belief in the bible don't seem objectionable to me- just out of kilter with the vocal sentiment expressed by nationalists.

Get a new Bible, m9. You've saturated that one in tears.

Chlamydia's getting it far too tight in this thread from boys thinking they've seen an easy target on a forum like P&B.  I've stood in the away end at Ibrox following Hibs and obviously dislike the huns but it's good to get a range of opinions on here.

Irvine Welsh reduced a full group of people and minority culture to simply just existing for "hating Catholics". Most folk on here seem to buy in to the same bigoted view.

Anyone who was raised or participates in this culture is denigrated and cast as some horrible, disgusting human being (see posts above) and membership or attendance at such events is seen to trump all other aspects of their identity or any decency they have.

The implication from the scene, and also one that is common on here, is also that anyone from a working class background who is a unionist is also a sash wearing bigot.

I don't think anyone involved in that scene would per se mind being caricatured and laughed at if it was in good humour. However that scene wasn't in good humour. It was a blatant attempt to demonise and have the majority of the population laugh, sneer and feel superior. To look down their noses at them to reassure themselves that no matter how much of a scumbag they are and no matter how terribly they treat people on a daily basis- "at least they aren't like that lot".

That culture is one which is under continual attack from media, some members of the public and politicians who want to see it banned as it doesn't fit in with the vision of Scotland they want. Where everyother culture is a wonderful example of diversity which must be exempt from any questioning.

It is either wrong to characterise and demonise and a full section of society or it is not. You can't pick and choose when it's acceptable or not because they are out of fashion.

Where does an Airdrie fan fit into that lovely little story?

Fair enjoyed that. I don't know if it will age well, but it was still really good for the watch that it was there. Fair pished myself at the 1690 sing song bit.

I enjoyed it more than I did the book, which can be rarity in itself, but if there is one thing I'm gutted that it didn't include...

It was Sick Boy anonymously sending Begbie gay porn whilst he was in jail.

Just in from seeing this at the cinema tonight, thought it was superb, its essentialy about how, as one character states 'the world changes but we dont'.

Beautiful and melancholy at times in its nods to the past and the original film.

As stated earlier Veronika is an absolute wid  she could do me with a strap-on and blackmail me anytime !

Am I the only one on here who noticed the cameo from former boxer, football casual and Hibs 'top boy' Bradley Welsh?

How could you not notice it considering he was the worst actor in it? And that takes a bit of doing when Irvine Welsh is in it too.

It was the now closed Castle Boxing gym (though it should re-open in new premises soon) and that was Brad's right hand man Phil on padwork. So pleased for the pair of them to be in the film. Irvine Welsh (no relation) and Brad are very close. Brad (given a different name) and his Duddingston/Holyrood Boxing gym also feature in The Blade Artist.
