So we could have Baird, arguably our worst player last season, McGinty, arguably the worst defender in the Championship and Muirhead, a player who hasn’t been first choice centre half since he signed for Ayr as our 3 first choice centre half’s

McGinty is a player you sign in late August as cover for the 2 centre half’s you have because no one else is available, not the first centre half you sign.

If we lose McCowan and Walsh, it leaves us with very little up front. So we can’t afford to sign 8 centre half’s this season because the ones we set up with originally were stinking.

This isn’t a Claude Anelka situation we are getting stung with here? Hopkin doesn’t represent these players or anything?

I have never known a manager to be so disliked in such a short period of time. Fans have preempted every move he has made, I hope he doesn’t play this way, I hope he doesn’t set up this way, I hope he doesn’t sign these guys.......bang! it’s like he is trolling us.

I hope it works out but all evidence points to us getting a new manager about October time and trying to shift this shite on at Christmas

Definitely a "glass half empty" outlook, what about Fjortoft and the boy McAllister who have also both been heavily linked as has Lithgow.

Hopkin paid money to sign Henk van Scheik twice. Who knows what ringers you could end up with at the back

Going by the law of averages, he's surely going to get one right soon !!!

the one he got right with us was Baird and look how that went for you. Maybe McGinty will be the opposite.

Oh Dear !!

Now you ARE worrying me.

Could Danny Rodgers be an option for Goalkeeper? Released by Kilmarnock yesterday and played under Hopkin at Morton.

I’m not going to get upset yet about the potential of McGinty signing but that will have massive alarm bells ringing.

Christ almighty if we sign Danny Rogers we deserve everything we get. He’s hopeless.  Please no 😬

How reliable is the Greenock Telegraph? Is it possible that “reports” is code for “some bloke on P&B”?

Last summer, they had Nesbitt as definitely off to Dunfermline. Maybe they were playing the long game and he will go there this summer...

On 18 June 2018, McGinty was signed by Scottish Championship club Partick Thistle on a two-year deal.[32] McGinty became a favourite with the Thistle fans, known for his passionate celebrations and connection with the supporters.[33][34] He was named club captain in August 2019

Atleast we know he can work a computer now.

He was never a fans favourite at Thistle. They similar to Morton fans don’t rate him.

You are grasping at straws here.

If we sign Sean McGinty (and he plays a decent amount of games for us) we immediately become favourites for relegation.

There’s a kernel of truth in that, actually. Despite being an awful football player, he used to do a big lap of honour clapping the fans at the end of every game, and some of the mugs in our support lapped it up.

This is quite simply untrue. Not even close.

He did have occasional mini-runs of games (3 or 4) where he looked good (usually in the rare occasion when we were on the front foot and his playing out from the back was an asset). A few of us would then speculate that there might be a player in there somewhere. Then we'd play a better side, be put under pressure, concede a corner and be reminded of his limitations.

All joking aside and this isn't about McGinty as such, but someone mentioned it earlier (Hursty ? and also one of our Greenock cousins as well) that focus is always put on defending when a team is losing and failing to score goals, when you're winning matches 4-2 or 5-3 the oppositions goals tend to be forgotten about as a win is celebrated and few will focus on the defensive frailties.

Unfortunately for Ayr and our back line, our severe lack of goals tended to result in a string of close defeats or draws last season where a mistake by Baird or Roscoe or whoever else came into the focus, where clearly the real problems lay up top and in the lack of creativity from the midfield.

Looking at the Morton stats it seems that they undoubtedly had similar problems, so while McGinty and Baird may not be a world beaters it would be all too easy for us to lay the poor play from both our sides solely at either of their doors.

To give the Ayr fans a glimmer of hope, i thought he actually started the season off ok,  he was fairly solid and didn't make many mistakes.

However as the season went on, mistakes became more and more common.

Got the absolute fear that this is all rumour, Gus gets the job and announces Mcginty on a 2 year deal.
