But he’s right though.

A bit of a (huge) reach but say an independent Scotland decided to align themselves with Russia? You think our southern neighbours would just huff, shrug their shoulders and say ‘you can’t park that there mate’.

Ukraine’s position and NATO’s (USA’s) pushing on Russia’s border is the entire reason this has all come to pass.

correct, back in the day the soviets had cuba on side, they then tried to get more countries in central America and the Caribbean to become allies and therefor have a viable means of attacking the continental US  and the US met that by sponsoring some pretty nasty insurgent groups who opposed them and in some cases used military force

Then why even bother to setup against them in the east then? For keeping up appearances? Were Ukraine banking on foreign backup?

Step out of the way of the powerful but obvious frontal attack from the large well equipped opponent. Counter using the superior mobility afforded by being smaller and leaner to discombobulate and frustrate.

Apparently most large invasions of Russia from the West have come through Ukraine, so Putin has seen the threat of NATO spreading into Ukraine and putting weapons there as history repeating itself.

If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected .

Condemnation of Putin and the invasion of a sovereign state, would give that frog faced weaselcunts point regarding Russia's security interests and the expansion of the EU and NATO just a smidgen of credibility but it's absence makes it look like apologism and an unwillingness to criticise his hero/benefactor. Just like Trump.

I presume that lithuania latvia and estonia do not have as much of a liking for russia as some of the Ukraine then , there are nato bases in all of these countries and all are members
why is that not an issue for putin ?

They’re part of NATO. An attack on them is the same as an attack on America or France in terms of what kind of reaction it would get.
Least that’s what that alliance is meant to mean… in practice, I’m not sure if it would hold.
Surely even Mad Vlad is going to test that though. Plenty of non NATO states that are ripe for the picking before he looks at them.
