Thomson's, about 400 yards up Morrison St from Haymarket. No music, no puggies, great pies.

ETA - Good beers too, usually several guest ales but their Belhaven Best is top drawer !

An excellent recommendation my good man, in my dotage the lack of canned music is bliss.

Wasn't the best bar but the one on Dundee station platform was handy for a last pint and didn't have to finish pint until you saw the train at window.

Gone with the modernisation.

I found that pub so depressing. Thank goodness it’s gone. Star and Garter was the place to drink near the station. The train drivers used to be in there too.

Same for Haymarket please, I'm staying just across the road from the station.

Seconded for Thomsons. Great bar.

Malones is actually acceptable as well, Guinness in there usually very good. Blue Blazer further up the hill is a great pub too.

I may be on less than firm ground here (I don't get the weiss-bier thing) but why go to an old man's pub on the recommendation of the quality of its' draught beers and then order a bottle?

Looking through a Twitter thread I started last year charting my favourite boozers in Scotland - here are some of my entries:

Ayr: Wee Windaes, Smugglers & Bridges Bar.

Greenock: Green Oak and The Willow.

Glasgow: Denholms, Herraghty's, Allison Arms & McChuills

Edinburgh: Thomsons', Jinglin' Geordie, Joker & The Theif

Dundee: Pheonix, Trades, Tickety Boo's, Ladywell Tavern, & Hill Bar.

I lived more or less upstairs from the Willow for a while about 20 years ago. The variety of punter it attracted was quite something.
