The fact that anyone is throwing flares towards others fans or onto an artificial pitch is moronic. I seriously don’t understand why the police wouldn’t guide them up by the Abbotshall and up to the away end as opposed to walking right along Links Street and past the home end. Raithie Posted March 11 Share Posted March 11 Agree with others about Police escorting Dunfermline fans via Milton Road rather than along Links Street would be the better option. That bit at The Estuary has been a haven for bother, not just against Dunfermline, but some other recent games as well (Motherwell in the cup last season being a prime example and there were pockets of nonsense against Airdrie after the cup game). Links Street is a Green Street wannabes wet dream with plenty side streets and closes to bolt in and out of and driving through it at full time on Saturday there were heaps of youngsters huddled up in door ways, behind garages, behind The Estuary and up the close next to the Premier shop. Neither set of fans are innocent of course. Rovers fans would know Dunfermline fans are heading that way (and specifically when as SNW posted on Twitter when they'd be heading along) and Dunfermline fans will know there's folk waiting after previous nonsense. I had my worries about Saturday after what happened at EEP with the young lad getting a doing however not sure if Saturday was any worse than normal at derby games. To be honest I was more surprised at the blaise reaction of the youngsters earlier in the season against Dunfermline when they thought fighting on the high street and storming O'Connolls to nick some flags with all the CCTV about was a good idea. Some folk just don't seem bothered at the potential consequences. What was the script earlier in the season with both sets of fans being stopped from heading in eachothers general direction at full time? Can't remember if it was the cup game or league game but Rovers fans were prevented from heading up Pratt Street at full time and Dunfermline fans stopped from heading down Pratt Street? There needs to be more work done with the clubs (in support with the police) to address this. Yes - a vocal, noisy and enthusiastic supporters group should be welcomed, even encouraged. However, proper liaising with these groups, a voluntary charter of acceptable behavior drawn up by the groups should be in place. Wide scale non-adherence should be rewarded with dis-association, bans etc. I feel 'ultras' are becoming a bit too 'odd'. They either seem to be full of hot-headed teens desperate for a scrap or look like a nursery class with a drum. Dunfermline's Section North West is a great example - they do good things like bringing noise and support to what was a dead area of the ground but there does seem to be a tenuous link between them and those who cause trouble [for avoidance of doubt, I am not saying that this is the purpose or want of the group, it just seems to be a minority of those associated with them]. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

O'Connell's seems to have been a new thing this season. I was in it before the October game and it wasn't too bad. Suppose most away fans coming to East End use the Lizzie, makes perfect sense given it's behind the away end. I have to say, despite our appalling record, Kirkcaldy is still one of my favourite away days. Easy to get to, easy to get back to Dunfermline, pubs are a stone throw away from the ground and of course it's a derby so it has that wee bit of edge to it. Raithie Posted March 11 Share Posted March 11 I mind going to the Tipsy Cow at a derby game many moons ago. Had no idea this was where Dunfermline fans holed up pre match until I walked in. Ended up playing pool with a few Pars fans up the stairs, not a hint of bother. Likewise I took a Pars supporting pal to Starks Bar when it was still open, he got booed as he walked in but wasn't hounded out and things were fine. Nowadays though I've no idea if fans mingling pre match still happens.
