  1. Not really. The AM team principal used to be the team principal at Alpine and has worked with Alonso before. Let's face it. If one of your two seats is taken up by the unsackable bosses son, you want the best you can get in the other seat.
  2. I can watch in HD without Croftys witterings, or in SD listening to him. Decisions, decisions.
  3. I missed the start of the race. Seems there is no commentary.
  4. Cineworld in Falkirk are showing the directors cut of The Wrath of Khan on my birthday. Tickets booked.
  5. Yes he is. He could have resigned his position then joined the picket. Chose not to. Could have followed the party leaders instructions. Chose not to. Could have followed the party line supporting a negotiated settlement. Chose not to and went off script (whilst being the party's official transport spokesman) He chose the only action that would result in his sacking. Then was all over the press slagging his own party. Happy to damage Starmer and Labour just to save his own job. Happy for more tory government to save his job. This reelection means more to him than anything. But aye, Starmer is the baddie here.
  6. A millenia-old definition of a relationship is between a man and a woman. Times move on and so should we.
  7. I remember when my dad took my son for a walk, at about the same age. My son was darting from bush to bush, hiding behind lampposts. Dad asked what he was doing. "Looking for snipers" was his answer. Even now dad talks about that - must have been a similar moment.
  8. Went into town today. Heading for the retail park, went past the college. Got to the traffic lights where you turn right to head to the retail park, and this guy in a BMW sat through 4 cycles of the traffic lights without moving. On the third cycle some folk in the queue drove round him. Eventually he moved. I think he was waiting on a filter light
  9. Trans people have been around for a long, long time. There is a huge body of research both in terms of biology and psychology on this subject. The idea that we need to put a stop to all this and wait on "the research" to reach a level of understanding that is, in practice, unattainable is the very argument that anti-vaxxers have been using for 18 months now.
  10. I see Sam Tarry doing his reselection bid for his seat no harm at all. Joining Corbyn today on the picket line and attacking Starmer on TV. Attaboy, you fucking muppet. Nobody can ever remember a word he said about the Tories, but he got his dim, uncomprehending face on the TV harming Labour's chances.
  11. Not defending the guy, but these expenses generally are for paying for a constituency office and staffing it, as well as travel to and from the constituency to parliament. These are legit expenses for an MP. As we saw in ~2009 though they are all scumbags on the take.. Flipping first/second homes, claiming for everything - how do they even justify a food allowance on top of their salary?
  12. I just assumed that a "warm bank" was a euphemism for a w**k.
  13. I have escalated my complaint to Scottish Power. Not sure if it was this thread where I first posted this, but the story is simply this. In 2015 I left Scottish power and joined OVO. Paid my final bill with SP and moved without too much pain. For 7 years all has been fine, no problems with OVO. In June Scottish power sent me a bill for over £11,000 "based on actual meter readings". I checked with OVO who say nothing has changed (ie I am very much still a customer of theirs). I put in a complaint. I got one reply, a week later, from someone telling me they were passing it on to someone "with more skill than me" to deal with. Then I received another bill, for just under £4,000. Having heard nothing else, I escalated this. I have to wait 8 weeks from my initial complaint to take it to the ombudsman, but i reckon I might go to the press with this if not resolved. The Guardian have regular stories about people having issues like this with energy companies.
  14. My step daughter's son had a heart operation last year. Been given the all clear now and discharged.
  15. I will be avoiding the news channels. I choose to be updated on this case by reading this thread.
  16. 10 years ago he was at his peak. He reminded me of Hakkinen in terms of his ability to pull our a pole position lap at the very end of qualifying. That was his big strength - sticking it on pole and leading from the front. Led to many folk suggesting he couldn't hack it in midfield but I think that's not right. Still hard to fathom he has more titles that folk like Alonso and Senna, but he was damn fast in his day.
  17. I would give up and just head straight to Strange New Worlds.
  18. This is something of an understatement. Much of it is horrendous.
