For anyone (like me) considering the Samsung Galaxy S3 or whatever it's called you can get it for £26 on a decent T-Mobile tariff (more than good enough for me) from buymobiles.net http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobile-phones/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S3/30,103121,All,tt1,ct1

You can get the same deal from mobiles.co.uk but it also comes with three months half price so it's slightly cheaper http://www.mobiles.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s3-blue.html

You see, I loved it when I first got it but I had to get a new handset when something went wrong with the battery/hardware. As of now with this new handset I constantly have problems with typing. Phone takes ages to register typed commands for example, texts and pressing a persons name for a call. The signal is usually always awful wherever I go and I rarely get 3G. Fucking sick of this lump of shit.

I take it you've calibrated the G sensor?

Thanks for the advice people. I'm thinking about the S2 atm. Does look like a good phone and heard only good things about them. I reckon I could twist vodafone's arm to get one, if need be. The HTC One looks smart too but don't think I want to risk going down that road again after having so many problems with the Legend. Moving to Orange has crossed my mind, been with them before and they were pretty faultless.

Sorry but I don't know what this means. Do you mean turning on the G signal? Yes I have done this...I think.

No, go into settings>display> Gsensor. Lay phone flat then press enter. I've noticed keyboard functionality being affected and resolved with this.

Ah, cheers! Only time will tell if this has worked...I shall keep you updated.

The One X is f*cking epic.

Not had a single problem with it (except Tesco mobile changing my number over from Vodafone which meant I had no network for a full day) but hey ho.

All other screens seem tiny now

I got the Galaxy S3 the other week, and I absolutely love it. Having had an HTC Desire before, I'm astounded at the difference in internal memory storage!

The display is great, really sharp colours, and everything is noticably quicker than the Desire. Much bigger screen too, so porn football videos now look much better ph34r.gif

My checklist when upgrading;

* Avoid carrier locked models so you don't wait too long for updates

Is this usually the case? Unlocked S2 handsets were last to get the ICS update a while back!

I get you. I did mean plain vanilla, but I realise that there will be hardware compatibility issues.

I might try another launcher, or living without, or a custom ROM that does what I want without the bloaty feeling.

Where I notice the lag the most is when changing from landscape to portrate mode, with resizing the screen. I presume there is a necessary delay, for the phone to realise it has changed position. Beyond that, the notification bar at the top, and the wallpaper itself, don't adjust quickly enough to hide the illusion that there's a launcher on top of a stock OS.

I would definitely recommend trying ADW.

Im very tempted to try that custom ROM that you posted earlier, especially as Ive had to reinstall ICS and lost root after getting it stuck in a boot loop trying to change the lcd density

Really, are you sure? The process is usually :

- "vanilla" android version released (only works on phones like Nexus)

- manufacturers turn vanilla version into working OS for each phone model

- carriers add their crap onto the manufacturers versions and roll out to customers

Its described in a bit more detail here

I didn't know that. Source?

I vaguely recollect that Samsung are known to be pretty slow generally with their OS update paths.

Now that I think back, I think T-Mobile were last to get it but every other carrier had released the ICS update for the S2 before it was released for unlocked handsets. I can't be bothered looking for a source now as I'm on my phone, but I was waiting for the update for ages myself and then there were a few false dates given, and then there were dates given for Vodafone etc releases. I remember moaning about it at the time.

Bit the bullet today and ordered the Samsung Galaxy S3. Phoned Orange for my PAC code and when I told them what I could get elsewhere they didn't even bother with a counter offer. Free phone, 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 750mb of data for £26 a month from buymobiles.net - plus I'll get some cashback with Quidco.. Had less than that on my current contract and didn't once go over the limit so should be good.

Did you order the white or blue model? Just asking as I quite fancied getting the blue model but it was backordered when I went to order it a couple of weeks ago due to a problem with the paint on the blue models backcover, so I've decided to stall at the moment.

Blue, which I only noticed after I'd ordered was out of stock. Expected in stock on Friday so should have it by the weekend, which is fine.

EDIT: Just noticed they are only hoping to clear pre-orders by next week so not sure when they'll get to mine. Might phone up and ask for the white one instead seeing as there's sod all difference and I'll probably have a case thing for it anyway.

Dunno. I only have 500mb but have never gone over it as I use wi-fi when I can and only have data turned on when I'm using it.
