J_Stewart
Messi scored his 50th goal of 2019 today, that’s the 9th year out of 10 that he’s scored at least that many in a calendar year. That’s just absolutely fucking ludicrous. They showed a graphic after Jamie Vardy scored during the Man City Leicester game showing that since Guardiola joined, Vardy has scored most against them with 6. Messi is second with 4. Again, just absolutely fucking ludicrous. Completely and utterly peerless.

It's taken him significantly longer than it took Messi to get there but he's at least level for now.

You’d almost rather he had a shocker than this anonymous performance. Messi for the small games, Ronaldo for the big ones. Was the wee man on tonight?
craigkillie
How did Ronaldo get on in his quarter final? -
killiefan27
For all Messi was bad - and he was - he creates the second goal with a pass from deep and OG aside was basically Barcelona's only threat in the first half. Which is not to defend his performance, which by the end was an absolute disgrace. I'm always loath to accuse footballers of not trying, but he literally wasn't at the end. Just walking about with his head down and not even trying to get involved. I understand he's getting on a bit and can't press like he used to, and I'm not expecting him to be making blocks in his own box, but he just wasn't doing anything.
Iminavest
The dejected head bow after a nothing performance is almost synonymous with the great man now. Sad
throbber
Ronaldo still would have thrown the toys out the pram if his defence was leaking goals like that last night.

The point isn’t at what round they got knocked out, but at the performance of them both in doing so. Ronaldo was by a distance the best player on the park, scored twice, and put one on a plate for Higuain at 2-1. Messi never kicked a ball. Teams can get knocked out of tournaments, it happens, but you can’t seriously tell me it Ronaldo was in that Barcelona side tonight they’d have got beat 8-2 without him touching the ball. Bad post Craig. Bad post. Messi got an assist, and Ronaldo has had to move to a pub league cause he can't cut it in the league Messi was once again top scorer in this season. -
Benjamin_Nevis
They are both superb players heading towards the twilight of their careers. Ronaldo's goalscoring in Serie A (it's not a public btw you fucking simpleton) is impressive, until you realise the extent to which it's topped up by dodgy Juve penalties. It'll be interesting to see what Messi's role is once Barca's current manager is presumably emptied after last night's shitshow.

Aye stats are very misleading, Ronaldo is a poacher now, he's a centre forward who stays near the goal and central, Messi is an attacking midfielder/playmaker type essentially. Its a lower standard of league than La Liga -
