Waggy-1872
Barry Ferguson in his prime. I could count on one hand the amount of good games Darren Fletcher had for Scotland.
1320Lichtie
Correct me if I am wrong lichtie but did you not once claim brown was a better player than ferguson? Not necessarily more gifted. But a better player for Scotland.

Dindeleux
Barry Ferguson, whilst better than Brown, was never ever world class. Not even on his best day. If he was at any stage world class he would've been whisked away by a big club. You will probably reply back and deny this but you know its true. Barry Ferguson -> Brown World Class ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Barry Ferguson To answer the OP - in my lifetime probably haven't ever had a world class player.
BAWS
Barry Ferguson World Class? If the people saying this are being totally serious then I fear for your mental health. Wow.....
Lex
Not that it's a reliable marker of being world class, but are Lambert and Fletcher the only Scots to have won the Champions' League as players? If we extended it to include the old European Cup, there would be a couple of dozen between Celtic, Liverpool, Forest and Villa, with plenty more if Leeds hadn't been robbed in 1975. Fletcher was an unused sub in the final that United won in 2008. But yeah they're the only two to have ever 'won it'. A more telling stay is Lambert is the only Scottish player ever to play in a UCL final on either the winning or losing side, and that was going on 20 years ago. When you consider the amount of players we had playing in European Cup finals throughout the 70's and 80's, it's an almost unbelievable decline. It's not as if we have players knocking on the door or close to that level either. We haven't even had a single player playing in the group stage of the Champions League in the last two seasons.
Richey Edwards
If the criteria for World Class is that the player could grace any top team on the planet then Scotland have had no world class players in my lifetime. Ferguson, Lambert, Fletcher and McFadden were all good players for Scotland but World Class? Come on now.
MONKMAN
Other than Denis Law and Kenny Dalglish, I don't think there much scope for anyone else to get the nod.
The_Kincardine
Other than Denis Law and Kenny Dalglish, I don't think there much scope for anyone else to get the nod. I really can't think of any beyond Kenny. Barry Ferguson had some moments in European games when he was excellent but not enough to make him WC.
Dindeleux
It was before my generation but how good were Willie Miller and McLeish? Or were they just good players in a very good Aberdeen team?
BobWilliamson
Andy Goram between 1992-94 was as good a 'Keeper as I have seen and could have played for any team. Barry Ferguson was absolutely nowhere near World Class. Souness and Dalglish were key players in one of the best teams I have seen. Davie Cooper on his day was unplayable at times but like many wingers he could be very hit and miss. Jimmy Johnstone was up against Willie Henderson for his place and this why both were not capped as often as you would expect. Fletcher and Lambert are both very decent players but come on. You just can't make any case for them.

They were both great teams.

Ugly as f**k the pair of them, though

That is really stark. I knew we were in a bad way, but it hadn't even occurred to me that the situation had gotten that bad.
