Andretti and GM looking at entering in 2026. Possible under the Cadillac marque according to BBC.

Got to wonder at this. Yanks Entering F1 historically have underestimated the sheer amount of cash needed to make a competitive car.

Gene Haas put in enough, he thought, to win the title. Go back to the BAR days and the story is the same.

Is this going to be an 11th constructor or just some extra funding and a rebranding for an existing team? It must be a long time since a team has started from scratch and managed to get anywhere near the top end of the grid.

Either way, 2026 is shaping up to be a season of huge change.

Meant to be a brand new team - FIA announced earlier in the week they were open to applications. Hopefully there's a few others and some nutters come to the fore.

Think the last totally new team to manage to win a race would have been Stewart, which got a win in their third and final year. Toyota managed a few podiums but it was ultimately a waste of hundreds of millions for what they eventually got in return.

I watched the Jackie Stewart documentary on Sky which was quite good but someone mentioned a documentary about Max Mosley on here. Any chance you can post the name/link to it?

Been a few months since I watched it, but unless Netflix has two Max Mosley documentaries on the go, it's this one -

I might be wrong, but I think the most recent team to start from scratch (and is still in the sport) is Red Bull. They started out as Stewart in 1996, then became Jaguar, then Red Bull. I remember watching a really interesting documentary about Jackie Stewart getting the team up and running, and sweating about his car meeting the safety rules.

Toyota also started from scratch after this, but then left.

Most/all other teams essentially bought older teams and rebranded them.

Last year, the Volkswagen Group announced that both its Porsche and Audi brands were planning to enter F1.

Audi's entry is well under way at Sauber.

But while Porsche's attempts to link up as engine partner with Red Bull eventually collapsed, its interest is not dead, and it is still exploring ways it could enter F1.

The other big name in the picture is Ford - GM's biggest rival in America.

Senior sources say it is in talks with Red Bull with a view to a partnership similar to Porsche's original plan, and could later expand into its own team entry.

With Porsche and Ford in the picture, the Andretti bid is less attractive to some than it might appear at first sight.

There is also a project known as Panthera Team Asia, which says it is ready to enter the expressions of interest process, but is likely to be some way down the wanted list.

"Panthera Team Asia" sounds very legitimate.

Always has been the way, but they seem to have finally grasped that diluting the overall brand diminishes each of it's component parts, which is a good thing insofar that it should mean no more complete pisstakes like Virgin Racing and Hispania F1 turning up on the grid.

Williams appointing James Vowles of “Valtteri, its James…” fame is a bit of a coup, although part of me thinks its a Toto plant to further entrench Williams as a Mercedes B-team. It’s also been rumoured that Williams will be signing Gulf Oils as a sponsor which gives a bit of potential for a really nice livery.

Launch season not too far away now… starting to get excited.
