I reckon I can survive it. All the same, I've had a bit of a cold for the last week and I am now considering whether or not I should get myself tested. If nothing else it might score me a two week holiday.
Big Fifer
Off to Paris next week for a conference, surprised we've not heard anything from the organisers CRU about it, any potential cancellation will cost them a fortune. Hopefully this COBRA meeting suggests a cheeky wee 2 week self isolation for those travelling back from countries that have it. Cupboards need a clear out.
Bairnardo
I want it on my terms. At the correct time on my shift cycle, hangover free so that I can make it through the rough first few days. If anyone gets it can they get in touch and give me the opportunity to lick their face before checking in to the hospital?

DiegoDiego
Some Italian reckoned it's because they're constantly snogging each other on the cheek. It's not the worst theory. One of the first things my boss told me when I moved to Italy was the importance of shaking hands with every customer who entered the office. Even now I'm shaking twenty hands a day with people arriving from all over Veneto.

Tight minge
Indonesia declare first victim, expecting a Gretna style storming of the league tables. They are two (mother and daughter) from Depok (south of Jakarta), so you could (will) be right. ETA: The daughter has been ill for two weeks before being tested. Can’t be a good sign.

Washing your hands with soap and water or sanitiser/grappa frequently wouldn't be paranoid in your case.
Musketeer Gripweed
It's now got to the stage where I believe football matches, more than anything else, should be postponed. Some of the toilets at the stadiums are filthy, and football fans are clatty b*****ds, in general.

welshbairn
The American healthcare system could speed up the spread over there. A Miami man who flew to China worried he might have coronavirus. He may owe thousands.

Why are people setting their faces against this? Is it just a desire to be contrary? The majority of people will be fine, a few coughs and sneezes at worst. However, it's very likely that thousands of older people, already sick people, people with asthma or COPD etc will die. If wearing masks, washing hands stops the spread of this and less people die, how is that a bad thing?

One of the worst hit places is Iran, although with the extensive censorship by the Authorities there it’s hard to verify any stories. If Iran is hit badly will this have a knock on affect on, for example, the conflicts Iran is involved in, in Syria, Iraq, Yemen? Will it weaken the IRI militarily? Could Iranian forces cause a spread to Syria and Yemen, which given the conditions there could be catastrophic. Quote Coronavirus kills senior Iranian official An official from the council that advises Iran's supreme leader has died of the coronavirus, Iranian state radio reports. Mohammad Mirmohammadi was a member of the Expediency Council, the Associated Press says. He is the first senior official to die from the virus, but several others have also tested positive. Iran has the highest death toll in the world outside China. In a statement on state TV, Iran's Health Minister Alireza Raisi said that 66 people have now died. "The definite latest numbers we have are 523 new infections and 12 new deaths, so the total number of those infected is 1,501 until now and the number of deaths is 66," he said. He added that 291 patients have fully recovered. But sources in Iran's health system told BBC Persian last week that at least 210 people had died of the virus. Most victims are from the capital Tehran, and the city of Qom, where cases first emerged. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-asia-51701043 Opening job opportunities for a new generation? Quote Also, there is the brewing of another refugee crisis in the EU with the Turkish authorities actions. Panic over a disease plus a surge in refugees is not something anyone should be dismissing lightly. It could bring a lot of ugliness not far from the surface of our politics into the forefront.
