  4. The fella enjoyed the game. Everyone at St Mirren are a credit to the club. The game was fairly decent. Shankland was playing way too deep for my liking. I was impressed by Main, Cochrane and Devlin most of all. Good atmosphere and a really healthy crowd. Thoroughly enjoyed my time at the game.

  5. I can't do it anymore. I've listened to it since I was a small boy, I'd have a pocket radio when I was at Victoria Park & could keep up with scores, I'd listen to it in one ear when I'd work Saturdays, but I'm done. Kenny has no control over the circus. It's just unlistenable shite & my phone can update me on scores now.

  7. Phenomenal performance. The Davidson goal is just outrageous. Kept the ball for about half an hour and then crashed it in from the edge of the box. Seven of those starters finished twenty-one points behind Airdrie and eight points behind Montrose. Of the four who didn’t, two are young loanees, one signed from Peterhead and the other signed from relegated Dunfermline. Two of our subs came from Cambuslang Rangers and Arthurlie. Gretna, indeed. It’s a shame that none of it matters because Dundee, Ayr and Thistle have more fans than us.

  10. From the individual that said Baccus was too lightweight. Olusanya was hooked so that we could bring on a defender to fill Fraser's position. It's standard procedure to remove one forward and keep your best forward on, as Brophy found out last week. Only a fool would think otherwise.

  12. Pleased to get the 3pts considering our previous results against them. Deserved too. The ref/linos though…. We’ve seen some belters down here but these guys take the worst ever awards. Shocking for both teams. Fair play to Nesbitt today. Played very well & took his goals well too. Assumed he was cupping his ears at the Montrose bench who didn’t stop moaning all day but others think it was at the fans? Could be but he has deserved criticism in most games. Agree with BPM, thought it helped having McGinn & Henderson behind him. Kennedy strong shout for MOTM too imho. Good debut for young Rowe Petrie & Campbell on their bench….Roond ye fifers ✌

  13. St Patrick's FPs 3-1 Dumbarton Academy FPs A really good game of football in a rare meeting between the two huge rivals (first time in about 6 years I believe). Let down a bit by a dreadful refereeing display. Accies reduced to ten men at the end of the first half for a challenge that only merited a yellow and further reduced to nine late on. A stoppage time goal gave St Pat's the win and they added another at the death with an empty net with the Accies keeper up for a free kick. Enjoyable game and a great occasion with well over 200 in attendance.

  15. It’s all well and good people coming on here and saying that it’s obvious what we need, or that it’s ludicrous that we’re signing kids instead of experienced pros/strikers instead of defenders, etc., but there is one glaring problem that most folk seem to be ignorant of - if the players aren’t there, available, or willing to come, what are Rhys and Dycey supposed to do? I’d wager that if you scan through the team threads on here for L1 and the Champ, most teams would be looking for a no-nonsense defender/destroyer midfielder/prolific striker (delete as appropriate), it’s not as simple as folk make out. To suggest that McCabe (someone that has been in the pro game for well over ten years now) can’t see where our deficiencies are is just plain daft to me. I don’t doubt for a second that we are looking to address it but unless a Liam Fontaine turns up at the Excelsior reception asking for a contract, a player like that will be extremely hard to find. We all want Airdrie to do well, none of us like that we’ve been in this league for 10 years straight now, but in my view, there’s nothing happening at the club that suggests they aren’t trying to resolve this. I get incredibly frustrated as well when I hear things like ‘this is the worst team for 4 seasons’ or ‘our disappointment of a chairman PH’. People seem to forget how grim things were painted to be at times on here under Murray - hell, as others have pointed out, if it wasn’t for an unheard of, frankly, freak run of results last year, we wouldn’t have finished the way we did. Not to discredit what the boys did last year, it was fantastic, but if anyone on here that has watched Airdrie over the past 15 years or so think that should be the norm, they haven’t been paying attention. We are where we are and while I am in no way saying we should accept that, we have to come to terms with the fact that it’s going to be incredibly hard to dig ourselves out and doing so will entail a lot of good fortune. As for PH - does anyone here have any idea of how much of his own money he’s dumped in the club in the last 5-odd years? I’m certainly not going to claim to know, but know enough to know that he’ll have taken huge financial hits to keep us as competitive as we’ve been in that time - he invested enough to keep last season’s squad together (bar Easton) and added what we expected to be known quality (Ballantyne/Rae), so it’s not like he’s not trying. I get that this is a forum for discussion and debate, I get that Monday’s performance/result was infuriating (and not for the first time this season) but you’d think we were cut adrift at the bottom of the league, or were 12 points adrift of the playoffs the way people are going on. This league is still wide open and unless you’re serious title contenders, there’s no difference as to whether you finish 2nd or 4th (as we found out to our detriment last year). My hope is that folk don’t start to turn on, by all accounts, two good players/blokes that are working hard for the club and early in their coaching careers in McCabe and Fordyce. Or that people don’t start to tear down lads early in their playing careers just because they make a few mistakes (see Euan Devenney who was public enemy number 1 6-8 weeks ago or most recently, Jay Riley). There’s plenty for us to be hopeful and positive about - we can get where we want to this season, but we need to accept it won’t be as pretty as last year.

  17. A revisit to Pittodrie for Aberdeen V St Johnstone today. Planned this one in advance as the last four grounds I need for the 42 weren't available because teams were either away or the RMT Strike making trains unavailable for Annan and Elgin. Cove Rangers were initially away from home before the game was switched. But I'd already bought my ticket before I realised. Travelled by bus as it is easy to get back to Edinburgh. Aberdeen much the better team and had an early goal disallowed for an arm being offside. Saints seemed happy to sit in and frustrate Aberdeen. But the Dons kept plugging away and managed to grab the win with two late goals.

  18. This is a tired, tired old non argument a lot of our fans come up with too. Because someone cannot immediately state who should replace a manager, does not mean they can’t express the opinion a manager should be sacked. One is not dependant on the other.

  19. Embarrassing stuff for Imrie: his diddy team being beat at Firhill as usual, getting sent off, coming back on the pitch at full-time greeting and cutting about wearing those chinos all day.

  22. What do you need to do to be "Manager Of The Month" as an OF manager? Surely winning every game is expected due to the fact their budget is astronomical compared to everyone else so I'm not really sure how they can be classed as excelling.

  24. You can bemoan your centre forward options, and watching Rudden last night I can see the frustration with him when he was more concerned with running into defenders to try to buy non-existent fouls than competing for the ball and therefore had no impact on the game. Ultimately though he's a player who had scored 3 goals in his previous 4 appearances, has hit double figures for Championship clubs twice before and every other club in the division would bite your hand off to have him in their squad, while he would start for the vast majority. Some clubs might have one better individual, but Partick are the only team with more attacking depth than Dundee and the idea that having to play Zak Rudden up front is an insurmountable obstacle to competing for the Championship title doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. Put him in the Raith team in place of Gullan and they'd have been out of sight at half-time last night. As for posters saying that was a shite game, can't see that. Dundee were shite in the first half but Raith were very good and controlled the game, albeit being Raith they lacked a cutting edge and failed to create enough with their dominance. Second half Raith were shite, Dundee considerably improved with the change of shape and created a ridiculous number of chances. Each team having a shite 45 minutes doesn't make it a bad game. If anything it made it better to watch, with Dundee's clowncar defending in the first half and Raith's inability to get out of their own half in the second adding to the entertainment. Rather that than a borefest of two competent teams cancelling each other out.

  25. In…it’ll be 10 years I’ve been in the US in a couple of months time, and this is the first time I’ve seen the good gear on draft. Saw it turn up in Miami (2013-2016) in cans a couple of times, but never since we moved to Chicago. In another fit of fantastic timing, carpetmonster Jr v2 is due to drop on January 24th, so I think 2 is gonna be about my limit just in case the better half goes into labour in the middle of the night. As it is, the pub is walking distance to the hospital. Duke of Perth, Halsted Street. Cheers!

  29. Felt like we never really got going. The midfield were really disjointed after losing Murdoch really early and Dipo was left isolated with no-one up beside him. As well as the three points the big plus was the return of Alex Kirk. Looked liked he'd never been out.

  31. Obviously be concerns about his experience but reckon that could be a good appointment for you guys. He talks and comes across really well when I’ve seen him as a pundit and seems to have bided his time as a coach. Certainly got to be a lot more appealing than the dinosaurs that get mentioned with every vacancy a la Yogi etc.

  37. With our game against Dumbarton getting called off when my son and I were on the road, we decided to take in your game today so he could tick another stadium off on his list. Having read the last page or so of this thread, you know you weren’t at your best, but I have to say that although the game wasn’t great, we throughly enjoyed our visit to Somerset. I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t know most of the players on the pitch, but what I would say that Ayr do seem to be on the right track, as an outsider looking in.

  38. Of course being top of the pile by 4 points is a fantastic achievement so far but the standard of football in the last 2-3 months has been utterly incredible. We started the season as a team who were all gung-ho going forward but suffered with a lot of naivety defensively which got fully exposed away at Ayr in October. In hindsight, that result was coming and ultimately it’s been a blessing in disguise. Coyle recognised the issues at the back and has tweaked accordingly without the frontline losing its firepower. If anything, the frontline has been enhanced massively. It’s been mentioned already but 7 of today’s lineup were struggling to gain wins over the likes of east fife and Clyde and those include; Callum Ferrie- Criticised for several key errors last year and badly exposed in aerial scenarios Jake Davidson- An unspectacular squad player at best last year which consisted of a grand total of 1 game at right back. Looked lost in midfield Tommy Robson- Was left wanting in a number of occasions throughout the first half of last season. Positional sense was non existent and questionable final ball Lee Kilday- Miles off it for large parts of the season, including a disaster at home to Alloa which finished 4-3. Struggled badly with injuries, with it being a lottery whether he made it through 90 minutes Jack Thomson- Looked quite simply a youth player playing in men’s football last year. Rash in the tackle and didn’t add much to the forward play Simon Murray- Injury prone, looked like he had bulked up too much which seemed to have affected his pace for large parts of last season. Rarely had composure in front of goal Charlie Fox - Phenomenal season but was somehow bombed out of the squad by Ellis for 2 months which impacted on results a significant amount for the worse You look at the descriptions of those players from last season and you see how amazing they’re performing nowadays reinforces how critical a decent manager still is at this level, even if you have a pot of money. You can have all the talent in the world but without a proper coach, it’ll get you nowhere. An unbelievable season it’s been so far for everyone involved

  42. Went for drinks in some shithole in Glasgow straight after the LC game in 2013. A stack of Hearts fans in the boozer and I have to say they were sound c***s, and with 20/20 hindsight I probably should have caught a bleaching. Too old to care about the '86 Albert Kidd stuff. I'd take 3 points over 2 games, and I'd rather see Hearts 3rd than Aberdeen. No crowd-wanking, just the truth. Out.
