Weirdly during that period I listened to the generation above me bemoan that we weren't the same team as we were in the late 60's early 70's

So you're onto something here

Aye, I should have added a generational factor.

Dont really get the hate for 'goals change games' in here to be honest, not every goal does obviously but it's really just a form of abbreviation for a goal against the general flow of play which knocks the confidence of the team that conceded and increases for the team that scored it.

In this league it is almost accurate every single week tbh.

Yes but fans of the losing team posting it every week is repetitive and comes across as sour grapes.

On a related note:

"We just want a club to support"

Usually said by fans holding collection buckets, after they've spent the previous few seasons lording it up about how gloriously successful they are.  Also anything related to "investment".  Football fans have a weird idea of what "investment" is, as it seems to apparently consist of chucking money into a bottomless pit of wages and transfers.  Do "investors" make a profit?  Do they get a return on their "investment"?  No.

'Doesn't understand Scottish football'

Usually aimed  at managers who have arrived from another league and are struggling with the same squad that have seen off multiple previous incumbents

Throwing money that you are unlikely to ever see again at something would be deemed fucking mental in every other business venture. It's deemed ambitious in the crazy world of football though.

Players who won't cope with the"Old Firm" atmosphere.

A similar one to a fan of a losing team (usually a relatively bigger one) trying to appear gracious in defeat by saying 'you deserved to win', but then following that up with 'because you simply wanted it more'.

They can't bring themselves to accept the other team were/are better, so it has to be because their team weren't trying hard enough.

It's even worse, as most customers of businesses don't have any genuine attachment to it - if it folds, they'll go somewhere else. Business arseholes might not understand/care why becoming insolvent is bad for the supporters of a club, but the people reporting on and running the game certain should. Unfortunately, they don't seem to give a shit either, so long as they get a bit of excitement/succulent lamb.

I think it’s more you’re on a high after a win and the dose of reality feels like being dunked in cold water when you want to pretend your team is good for a few more hours at least.

One that particularly annoys me is when a new player or manager comes in, and after four or five games you get fans saying "he just gets it".

It's amazing how many of the individuals in question happen to "just get it" after also winning lots of those games.

Nobody's ever brought in a new manager, watched him lose four games on the bounce, and still noted that he "gets it", despite results presumably being a separate thing from whatever nebulous concept of club culture people have imagined for themselves.

"Turn around and say"

Heard a discussion on the radio about an imaginary discussion between a player and his club. The gist was the player asking for stuff and each time the imagined response was "The club can turn around and say..."

Similarly every new manager will improve the fitness of the team compared to their predecessor.

He'll get them working hard, that's all fans want.

We no, we kinda like our teams to be winning too.

That's an everyday saying. Boils my piss when I hear it.
