Petty Things That Get On Your Nerves...

Recommended Posts

2 bin days in P&K, for me it's green bin (general) and blue bin (recycling) alternate Thursdays, brown bin (garden, and yes, I pay for the permit) every other Monday. Dundee's schedule seems excessive, to say the least. So many different bins just for them all to get emptied in to the same landfill. Wild.

For some reason, the council never got around to implementing recycling pickups on our street, so we still have the one bin that gets emptied weekly, just like The Good Old Days.

Obviously, we'll all be contacting the council about this glaring oversight any day now.

Brown bin (garden waste), green bin (general rubbish), blue crates, green crates and food caddy in East lothian.  It's being changed from September  - plastic bottles, plastic packaging,  and cartons will be going in "sealed and weighted" bags, glass bottles and jars in green crates, and cardboard and paper in blue crates.  Pain in the fucking arse. At this rate, everything will Just get chucked in the green bin.

We're in Bishopbriggs and Friday is bin day for my neighbourhood.

We have 5 bins, 4 of them being big bins:

- Black / General Waste
- Green / Garden Waste
= = =
- Blue / Paper and Cardboard
- Orange / Glass, Plastic and Metal

These are collected together, grouped as above, on a fortnightly basis, so every week your only task is to remember / look out the window to establish if it's a week for general waste and garden stuff or a week for the recycling ones.

Whichever week it is they also collect the 1 smaller Grey bin for Food Waste.

I really can't understand why a council would have people looking at a ridiculous calendar like the one posted earlier.

Most folk in my street are (or at least seem to be) retired and/or dottled. It keeps them on their toes and gets them out the house.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but is it really plehnies? For my whole life I've been saying plen anes so would be more than a little embarrassed to think my pronunciation is off.

On bins - In my place we have 2x black bins because that's what I bought whilst some others went for red, or green even. Bin lorry (it is a lorry rather than the sophisticated ones you have) comes twice a week (and i thought we were 3rd world) and takes all bins regardless of colour and contents (although they did reject my attempts to discard our door canopy one time - fair enough and no hard feelings) no questions asked - as it should be surely. 500 pesos in an envelope (supplied by them) as a Christmas gratuity and the odd soft drink for refreshment during the year and we're all happy.

Seems you guys have over engineered what is a very mundane task. You're in danger of evolving into the Japanese who fucking love garbage disposal rules and requirements and practices.

It would be fine if stuff actually got recycled instead of getting shipped out and dumped on some third world beach.

So that's where all that shite on my local beach came from!

Joking apart, I take perverse delight in telling my Japanese students how all their perfectly separated rubbish eventually gets mixed together as they don't have the resources to segregate once it reaches the refuse depots.

That's about as stupid as I would expect from a city that refers to "circles".

Why on earth do they have them on different days?

True. If they do them all on the same day they only have to send one lorry.

In Spain you have one bin and it gets emptied every night.

They have communal recycling bins all over the place too that you're expected to use.
