The Falkirk FC Thread

Heard Kenny Miller on BBC Sportsound talking about playing "John Hughes" Falkirk" in the Scottish Cup Final . Said Rangers were played off the park , "Nacho scored a worldy" which must be a new word for fluke and "they had us on pop" which I think means Rangers were getting the runaround.

Forget the Inverness final debacle , I think that remains our greatest opportunity for ...err... greatness. Nearly our finest hour.

A few months later George Craig appointed his mate Eddie May and the rest was history.  You can chart our downward spiral from there.

Certainly agree that was a game we should have won but the downward spiral started at the beginning of that season with the Next Level bollocks and the subsequent Dads Army campaign of signing Yogi's clapped out and knackered pals.

Like when Eddie May played Darren Barr at right back, Marc Twaddle centre half, Jackie McNamara in midfield along side Burton O’Brien?

Also having Carl Finnigan as our main striker after messing Steve Lovell about a new contract.

Shambles.

Spoke to Eddie May about 4 years ago at a recruitment event at Hampden Park. Really nice guy, sat and chatted for ages. Said he didn't want the first team job as he loved working at the Academy and the board talked him into taking it.

Nice guys finish last.

I know for a fact he wanted to resign in December and GC persuaded him to stay , and when we did sack him GC was still trying to stop it.

Great player for Falkirk, but horrendous manager who took no responsibility , hid in his dug out and could not change a game at all.

He also totally made an mess of our only venture in Europe - but I do accept the Lichtenstein team were not the mega minnows we all thought

Yet another example of  why ex Falkirk legends should never manage the team.

All of whom would be absolute stand-outs in the current squad , oh how we have fallen.

2008/2009 season - Aafjes, Latapy, Mallo, Riera, Arfield, Cregg, Barr.

Some great players - I'd take any of them now.........

BoB would fit in well with the current crop we have still dont think he would be a stand out right enough.

Hid on the pitch for me as a player and popped up with a few goals and by no means a legend or close, the only legendary thing about him is the transfer fee and two players we got for him as his career went downward.

The Brentford fans absolutely love him more than Cadette, I'd have Cadette way above him

Just goes to show we could have had a great team if Hughes hadn't blown the budget on guys who were past it.

Don’t forget Micheal Higdon.

7th all time top goalscorer In the SPL.

Id actually give Hughes credit (been a while) for getting Higdon into shape, he had went back to his previous shape when he turned out for Tranmere

Sure he lost 2 stone after pre season was finished.

A bit harsh. May was the kind of playing we've been crying out for for seasons.  A midfielder who actually supported and got past the strikers.  Who can forget his back flick finish to that tremendous goal at Broomfield all those years ago. Not many players like him about these days especially at our level.

Won the Premier League player of the year but seen as not good enough by Hughes along with a pile of other players that went on to bigger and better things.   Roman Wallner was another he deemed no good enough  although the next thing you know he's playing for red bull salzburg in the champ league. The guy was utterly clueless at times.

Yep, the 'utterly clueless' manager who gave us two 7th placed finishes in the SPL, our first(and probably only) European adventure and a cup final.

Utterly clueless indeed.
