Salvo Montalbano
There were clips onlike this morning with Newhart in them, some from stand up, from SNL, one from the Simpsons... I'm sorry but I don't get American humour. Thunk I barely raised a smile once (at the Simpsons one, obviously).

Polarbear
This is a sad one for me. Reardon visited our club back in the 90's and I ended up refereeing the 6 games he played. "A real gentleman" is overused but he trully was. RIP Mr Reardon.

Popular Post Miguel Sanchez
Week 29 update Innumerable deaths this week. First up is several people in one - Shannon Docherty et al: Shannen Doherty, Heathers and Beverly Hills 90210 star, dies at 53 | US television | The Guardian Quote Shannen Doherty, star of Beverly Hills 90210 and Heathers, has died at the age of 53. A statement from her publicist Leslie Sloane, cited by People magazine, said: “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.” The actor had been first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and underwent a mastectomy. In 2020, she said that her diagnosis was then terminal, calling it “a bitter pill to swallow” in a Good Morning America interview. This has reminded me that I haven't seen Mallrats in a while: Shannen Doherty died at 53 so she's worth 72 Base Points. A Vice-Captain bonus gives her 108 points and a Captain is worth 144. Those are distributed as follows: Base: @Arabdownunder, @Arbroathlegend36-0, @Arch Stanton, @Ash1990, @Bert Raccoon, @Billy Jean King, @cdhafc1874, @choirbairn, @chomp my root, @Cheese, @Craig fae the Vale, @El Guapo, @Forest_Fifer, @gingette, @Indale Winton, @lichtgilphead, @Lofarl, @lolls, @Mark Connolly, @mathematics, @Melanius Mullarkey, @Moomintroll, @Ned Nederlander, @Oystercatcher, @peasy23, @Savage Henry, @Shotgun, @sleazy, @sparky88, @The_Craig, @TxRover, @weirdcal Vice-Captain: @Bully Wee Villa, @Desp, @HI HAT, @JustOneCornetto, @nessies long lost ghost, @psv_killie, @pub car king, @The DA Captain: @Darren, @get_the_subbies_on, @Polarbear, @Scorge, @senorsoupe, @Sweaty Morph, @The Master, @The Naitch =============== Second death this week is comedian Bob Newhart: Bob Newhart obituary | TV comedy | The Guardian Quote Bob Newhart, who has died aged 94, employed a deadpan delivery, marked with a sometimes stammering hesitation, that made him an unlikely candidate to become one of America’s most successful comedians. It was in keeping with his character that his successes often went overlooked. Newhart burst on to the scene with the 1960 release of The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, a recording of his first-ever standup performance just months earlier. It shot to No 1 on record charts, followed six months later by The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back!, which rose to No 2, behind its predecessor. His debut won the 1961 Grammy as album of the year, the sequel won best spoken comedy album, and Newhart was named best new recording artist. There's actually too much stuff to highlight in my small quote box here. Being old and American lots of what I see here goes completely over my head. I know Ob Newhart for two things, both made in my lifetime - The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory. I didn't get this when I watched it when I was 11. I don't get it now. Newhart died at 94 so he's worth 31 Base Points for @gingette, @Mark Connolly and @weirdcal. =============== Finally, Ray Reardon: Ray Reardon, six-time snooker world champion, dies aged 91 | Snooker | The Guardian Quote Reardon ruled snooker in the 1970s when the man known fondly as “Dracula” because of his hairstyle became a household name as he won six World Championship titles. A miner and a policeman before turning professional, Reardon survived a serious accident in the pits when a tunnel he was working on collapsed in 1957. Reardon won titles as a teenager and was the Welsh amateur champion every year from 1950 to 1955. He gave up playing competitively after losing in the first round of the 1957 English amateur championship before joining the Stoke-on-Trent police force in 1960. I love seeing snooker scores from back in his day. He won his first World Championship with a score of 37-33 final. The current final is a best of 35 and it takes two days. Reardon died at 91 for 34 Base Points. @Sergeant Wilson gets that plus a Deadly Duo bonus for 59 points, @Suspect Device gets that plus a Vice-Captain bonus for a total of 76. After all of that, the standings now look like this: 1. Ned Nederlander 567 2. Billy Jean King 536 3. mozam76 528 4. psv_killie 527 4. lolls 514 5. The Naitch 510 6. Moomintroll 502 7. peasy23
Any idea what the record points haul is? High scoring this year, I was 14th last year with 288 points with Aim Here top of the pile with 458. It's not even August yet and I have 348 but languishing away down in 27th with Ned out in front on 567.
