He's hardly exactly set the heather on fire at Raith and his replacement at Airdrie got them promoted in his first season. I said as much on the Dundee thread. Would it not make more sense going for McCabe?

Could argue that Murray built that team, McCabe just brought it home. They were very unlucky to miss out via the playoffs last season.

Big pants time and maybe the Manager/BOD have approached Arfield, after the arse cheek’s announcement, nothing wrong with asking… Like all supporters can’t wait to see who he brings in, unfortunately I have a hunch not to get too excited……….maybe if Scotty signs I,ll break out the Rosebank Somebody at the club please make this happen and bring Scotty home. He’d pull the team up by the boot straps single handed and provide some much needed leadership on the pitch. ️ He was in the papers issueing a ‘come and get me’ (directed at Falkirk) as well, so can’t see why this can’t happen quickly. Get your finger out McGlynn. Edited May 23, 2023 by GunnerBairn

He's got the same excuse as McGlynn in that he inherited a lot of that squad already last summer.
Diamonds are Forever
28 minutes ago, TheScarf said: I said as much on the Dundee thread. Would it not make more sense going for McCabe? 2 ways of looking at that though, the other is that Murray inherited a relegation threatened team and built a squad that missed out on 2 play-off finals and then won the 3rd, albeit after he left. 9 of the starting 11 in Saturday were signed by Murray. We lost the final in ET last year and this year we won on penalties after scoring a last minute equaliser, it is ridiculously small margins so I'd say looking at the wider picture is fairer. I would say though he does seem to be lacking something in his management of big games, it was a theme all through his time with us and even from the outside it looks like there may have been signs of that with Raith this year losing the Challenge Cup Final to an inferior team. Therefore if I was a club who was going to be judged on silverware I wouldn't appoint him, if I was wanting a manager to implement a steady improvement in my club I would - I'd say Raith and Dundee fall under that bracket.

The Toun Clock
Arfield will have the pick of 10 Premiership teams, not a chance in hell he goes lower than that for this coming season. If you got promoted next season then maybe a chance but he’s far to good to be playing League One next season.

I know he was brought up in Livingston but surely he’d still be able to command a good salary ? Will it be funded by other investors ?

Guest Ecosse83
Arfield wants to finish his playing career with us but reckon it’s still a year too soon! Will end up at another Premiership team.

It's apparently being sold to him that we have a good track record in getting guys who recently stopped playing better jobs elsewhere after a while. Bartley went to QoTs after coaching with us for years and playing, Imrie to Morton, Fox to Dundee Utd/Aberdeen. Berra will probably go somewhere decent too. I can honestly see him playing with us for a year and taking the Falkirk job next summer once he has experience
