coprolite
There’s no evidence that the money itself is racist though.

Cant find a "gaslighting" meme, so heres a different one - Sam Kerr? https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/mar/10/craig-foster-apologises-to-sam-kerr-after-arguing-her-alleged-remark-to-uk-police-officer-was-racist This isn't about racism though, this is about - again - scoring political points. If the Tories give back £10m that would screw them (even further) in a GE year. If it was about racism the opposition would be screaming the guy should donate a large sum to anti racism charities but that wouldn't cripple the Tories though.
Dunning1874
Tangential to the donation, Lindsay Hoyle is in bother again as the issue came up throughout PMQs. One MP who repeatedly stood to be called on for a question and was ignored for the entire session was... Diane Abbott. You'd think the MP who's been the subject of the racism scandal the government are denying while other parties try to make political capital out of it would be given the opportunity to speak about it herself, particularly when abuse and threats of MPs have seemingly been a huge issue of late to the extent that Hoyle decreed Parliament shouldn't be allowed to hold votes on issues that might have constituents contacting MPs, and studies over the years have found that Abbot gets almost as much abuse as the other 649 MPs combined. Apparently not!

Apparently not! I noticed that while watching, she was repeatedly on her feet and overlooked. She was wearing a bright red coat so it's not as if Hoyle couldn't see her.
sophia
Oh dear, how inconvenient... Former Lib Dem leader Charles Kennedy has insisted his party went the "extra mile" to check out donor Michael Brown before accepting his money. Brown - who gave the party £2.4m ahead of the 2005 election - was later convicted of stealing £36m from clients and is now on the run from the police. The Electoral Commission ruled in 2009 the party could keep the money. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-14870774

He's the Tory party's largest donor and in turn they've given £400M of NHS and prison contracts to his company since 2016. That's who the Tory party are for. That's who they govern on behalf of, whose interests they prioritise, the Frank Hesters. That's the story that isn't being covered. £10 million seems a lot but is a drop in the ocean compared to the billions he could get with further NHS privatisation. It's corruption. That £10m is getting handed back at some point. It's obviously where this is heading. Wouldn't surprise me it someone else comes up with the £10m to replace it in exchange for some favours in the tories last few months in office though.

It is not just racists. A useful party photo opportunity has the Prime Minister being interviewed as they are coming out of church. Some people find it re-assuring. Thatcher, Blair and May could be relied on for this. Not sure if there have been anything similar with Sunak coming out of a Hindu Temple but I could be wrong.

Regardless of the circumstances, I find nothing reassuring about seeing a political leader demonstrating a belief in the supernatural. I've seen photos of Donald Trump holding a Bible. That should really tell us everything we need to know. Wee quote from Sam Harris -"George Bush says he speaks to god every day, and christians love him for it. If George Bush said he spoke to god through his hair dryer, they would think he was mad. I fail to see how the addition of a hair dryer makes it any more absurd.” Edited March 15 by Salt n Vinegar
BFTD
Racists seem to have worked out that the blanket "brown people = bad" strategy hasn't worked out so well for them, so the current idea is to hide behind a shield of self-interested sociopaths and pick off the current unpopular minorities. If successful - and it seems to be working right now - Sunak, Patel, Badenoch et al would make sure they were safely ensconced abroad by the time it would be their turn, probably doing the great Tory trick of acting shocked and stunned that their actions led to the exact thing they were planned to.
welshbairn
The Tories handing back their millions to Hester is hardly a punishment for the racist chiseller (£137 million in government contracts between April 2020 and September 2023), they should hand it over to Diane Abbott and let her decide what to do with it.
