So much for the guff about not revealing budget details in advance of the Chancer of the Exchequer getting to his feet. Not sure where you're getting your info but oil and gas ran oot around 10 years ago. I distinctly remember various prominent politicians/experts (I'm looking at you Ian Wood) telling us it had almost run out and that was around 2013. Also, in 2011 Ian Wood was speaking at a graduation ceremony for Aberdeen uni in 2011 and was telling the students to get involved in the oil and gas industry as it would see them through to retirement.
betting competition
I hope that the Tories' decision to maintain the North Sea Windfall Tax leads to their electoral defeat in the upcoming General Election in the North East of Scotland. What a bunch.

GTee
Windfall tax for the next five years on a declining industry. Ha ha. Can someone give a basic explanation of how London and the South East produce most of the country's wealth. What is it, that is actually produced there.
Alert Mongoose
A DSIT spokesperson said: "There is an established precedent under multiple administrations that ministers are provided with legal support and representation where matters relate to their conduct and responsibilities as a minister, as was the case here. Is running about social media falsely accusing members of the public of being supporters of Hamas now part of a minister's remit now? Presumably the BBC will be hounding her to repay this from her own pocket..? Edited March 7 by Alert Mongoose

They are basically holing the ship below the waterline here, making the biggest shitstorm possible for Starmer and co.
Michael W
The hole in NI revenue has been plugged by upping a few nuisance indirect taxes and abolishing the present non-dom regime. The latter in particular was one of the eays Labour proposed to generate money for public services. It basically nothing other than a huge 'f**k you' to Labour, who now appear to have little choice other than reversing the NI cut to pay for any sort of investment in public services. So then the Tories, who have led the UK to a record high tax burden, can screech about Labour being the party of high tax.
Brother Blades
Is the Social Care crisis now been dealt with? I must have missed that! Was that not the reason they increased NI in the first place? What a gang of duplicitous wanks.
Florentine_Pogen
Yay !!! The first parliament in modern history to oversee a drop in living standards. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/mar/07/household-incomes-to-fall-despite-ni-cuts-resolution-foundation-thinktank "Household incomes are on course to fall for the first time over the course of a parliament despite Jeremy Hunt’s national insurance cuts, the Resolution Foundation thinktank has said in its assessment of the chancellor’s budget. Amid almost two decades of falling real wages, the foundation said that after adjusting for inflation, household disposable incomes were poised to fall by 0.9% between 2019 and the end of 2024 – “the first parliament in modern history to see a fall in living standards”.
SandyCromarty
17 hours ago, GTee said: The media repeatedly describes Ian Wood as an 'Oil Tycoon' as if he was the Head of a major oil producing company which he isn't, nor is he part of the inner circle, what he is though is the Head of a very successful servicing company to the Industry of which one division for example are involved in fire and gas detection and suppression. So Ian Woods oil/gas reserves projection would be a generalisation. Having said that Ian Wood is a North Sea success story when you consider that his family business was fishing with their owned trawlers. The Heads of the Majors rarely give interviews.
